  • Memory Stick Formatter version 2.5 is software for formatting Memory Stick® media using certain Memory Stick adaptors with computers running Microsoft® Windows® operating systems.
  • Memory Stick Formatter version 2.5 is compatible with factory installed versions of the following Microsoft® Windows® operating systems:

      3 These devices do not support Windows Vista® operating system.
      4 The message "Drive Not Ready" appears after formatting. This is normal, the Memory Stick media is formatted correctly.

Download & Install


Download and Installation Instructions
  1. Download the MSFMTINST250.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the MSFMTINST250.EXE file.
  3. NOTE: If a previous version of the Memory Stick formatter is installed in your computer, an uninstallation command will appear on the screen. Follow the prompts carefully to uninstall the old version of Memory Stick Formatter and then double-click "MSFMTINST250.EXE" again.
  4. At the "Choose Setup Language" screen, click the drop-down arrow and select the desired language, and then click "OK".
  5. At the "Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Memory Stick Formatter" screen, click "Next".
  6. At the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen, click "Finish".

The installation of the Memory Stick Formatter Version 2.5 software is complete. The Memory Stick Formatter Utility will be available from the computer's Windows Program menu.

How to Use Memory Stick Formatter
Preparation
  1. Confirm that write-protection switch of Memory Stick is set to "Write enable" position.
  2. Insert the Memory Stick media into the Memory Stick slot of the device or computer.
  3. If using a file recorded on Memory Stick with the other application software, quit the application software.
The Format Process
  1. Start Memory Stick Formatter. From the Windows Start menu, Click Start, point to Programs (or All Programs), point to Memory Stick Utility and click Memory Stick Formatter.
  2. At the "Drive List" screen, click to highlight the drive that letter that represents the Memory Stick device/slot.
  3. Click the Start Format button.
  4. At the "Warning..." screen, confirm this is the Memory Stick you wish to format and click OK.
    NOTE: To quit the process, click the Cancel button.
  5. At the "Format was successful" message, click OK.
  6. To quit the Memory Stick formatter utility, click the Exit button.
Online Help

To display the online help, click the Help button. For further details on how to use Memory Stick formatter, see the online help.

  • Do not remove Memory Stick from Memory Stick slot while formatting. If you remove Memory Stick, it might cause a malfunction.
  • The format will erase all files in the Memory Stick. Always double-check the Memory Stick contents before formatting to prevent loss of important data.
