Preparation
- Prevent your computer from sleeping beforehand, the firmware update can take up to 3 min.
- PC web browser: Internet Explorer 11 or Safari and Chrome.
Note: To use Internet Explorer, the following settings are required.
-Select Internet Options “Security Tab” select Network Zone
-Click custom level
-Scroll down to “Include local directory path when uploading files to server"
-Set to “Disable" - Download the "SONY_Z85_692F08E2.zip" file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference) on your computer.
- Unzip the downloaded zip file to "SONY_Z85.bin"
IMPORTANT: Do not use any other file name. This update will not install successfully.
Check the settings of the projector
- Turn on the projector and display the menu screen. Verify that the settings are as follows:
[Connection/Power] menu
[ECO] menu
Standby Mode: Standard
Direct power On: Off
Connect projector and PC via network
- Refer to the instruction manual “Connecting to a Computer via a Hub or Router” and connect the projector to the network.
- Turn on the projector and display the menu screen. Check the IP address on the menu [Connection/Power] > [Network Setting] > [IP Address Setup].
Updating the System Software
- Set the projector to standby
- Open the control screen of the projector with a web browser
- Enter http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (IP address of the projector confirmed in 1. for IPv4) in the address bar of the Web browser.
Note: For details, refer to the following items in the VPL-FHZ85/FHZ80 series instruction manual "Uses Network Features". - Click the [Setting] tab and display the [Setting] page.
- Click [Select] in [FW Upload] to select the file to be updated, then click [Apply].
Update preparation starts. A message will be displayed after preparation is complete.
- Click [OK].
An update confirmation message will be displayed.
Note: The ON/STANDBY indicator on the projector will blink orange during the update process.
The update process takes about 3 minutes to complete. Please wait for update.
CAUTION: During the update process, do not disconnect the power/network cable from the projector.
Do not turn on the power of this unit with a remote commander, control panel keys or various protocols such as RS-232C and network during the update process. - Click [OK].
Update starts.
The [Setting] page will be displayed again after update is complete.
Confirmation
When the update is completed, click the [Information] page . Check that the version is correct.
Note: If the version number is "V1.07", the firmware update was successful.
The ON/STANDBY indicator on the projector will light up red, and the projector will enter Standby Mode, if the update is completed.
How to update software using USB flash storage device.
Please note that firmware update can take up to 3 min.
Preparation
USB flash storage device
* USB2.0 compatible
* FAT32 format (exFAT is not supported)
* Free space: 500Mbyte or more
Download and Transfer the Update Folder to Your USB Storage Device
- Download the "SONY_Z85_692F08E2.zip" file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference) on your computer.
- Connect a USB storage device to your computer.
- Unzip the downloaded zip file to SONY_Z85.bin and transfer the unzipped file to the root directory of your USB storage device:
Note: The root directory is the top directory in a file system.- For Windows operating system:
Right-click the unzipped file and, from the menu, click Send To, then click the drive (EX: Removable Disk E:) that represents your USB device. The file will be copied onto your USB storage device. - For Mac OS X operating system: Drag and drop the unzipped file to the root folder of the USB storage device.
IMPORTANT: Do not use any other file name or copy to any other folder on the USB device. This update will not install successfully if the name of the file is not SONY_Z60.bin or if the file is not located to the root directory of the USB device.
- For Windows operating system:
- Eject the USB Storage Device from your computer.
Check the settings of the projector
- Turn on the projector and display the menu screen. Verify that the settings are as follows:
Energy saving settings in the Connection/Power > ECO menu
Standby Mode: Standard
Direct power On: Off
Updating the System Software
CAUTION: During the update process, do not remove the USB device or disconnect the power cable from the projector.
Please read installation instructions before downloading.
- Power off the projector and Disconnect the power cable from the projector.
Note: Before unplugging the power cable, make sure the projector is in standby - Make sure no other USB device is connected to the projector before starting the update.
- Insert the USB storage device containing the file SONY_Z60.bin into USB port of the projector.
- Insert the power cable to the wall outlet while pressing the INPUT key on the projector. Update process starts automatically.
Note: The ON/STANDBY indicator will blink orange during the update process. The update process takes about 3 minutes to complete. - Release the INPUT key.
nnnnnn - Once the update is complete, the ON/STANDBY indicator will light up red, and the projector will enter Standby Mode.
- Press the / (On/Standby) key with the USB drive inserted.
- The ON/STANDBY indicator starts flashing in green.
- When there is another update, the ON/STANDBY indicator remains lit in red and the update proceeds automatically.
- When there is no additional update, the projector light turns on.
- Disconnect the power cable from the projector.
- Remove the USB device.
Confirmation
- Turn on the projector and display the menu screen.
- On the [Information] menu , the firmware version is displayed.
Note: If the version number is "V1.07", the firmware update was successful.
