Preparation
Check the firmware version
Your firmware may already be up to date, especially if you have a new Sound Bar. If the version number is M28.R.0534 or higher, you do not need to update.
If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:
- Turn on your TV and check it's tuned to the input your Sound Bar is connected to, so if the Sound Bar is connected to the HDMI2 socket, choose HDMI2 as the input.
- Turn on the Sound Bar.
- Press HOME on the remote control and wait until you see the HOME screen
- At the HOME screen, using the remote control arrow keys, select Setup → System Settings, then, press ENTER.
- Highlight System Information and press ENTER.
- On the TV screen, if the version number is M28.R.0534 or higher, you already have the most recent firmware version.
Important Notice
- Read the instructions carefully or you could end up damaging your Sound Bar
- Don't turn the Sound Bar off or disconnect it from the power while it's updating
- Don't press any buttons, except the ones mentioned in the instructions
- Don't pull out a power cord or a network (LAN) cable until the update is complete

Install
Updating your Sound Bar over the Internet
We recommend this method as it's the simplest way to update. It usually takes about 15-30 minutes. First set up the equipment, then download the update over the Internet to your Sound Bar.
What you need:
- An Ethernet cable to connect your Sound Bar to the internet
- To make sure your Sound Bar is connected to:
- an active internet connection (using Ethernet cable or wireless router)
- a compatible TV
Set up the equipment:
- Turn on your TV and check it's tuned to the input your Sound Bar is connected to. (So if the Sound Bar is connected to the HDMI2 port, choose HDMI2 as the input)
- Connect the Sound Bar to your internet source using an Ethernet cable.
- Turn on the Sound Bar.
- On remote control, press HOME and wait until you see the HOME screen.
Step 1: Install the update
- At the HOME menu, use the arrow keys on the remote control to select Setup → Software Update → Update via Internet and then press ENTER.
- When the message A new software version has been found on the network. Do you want to update the software? is displayed on the TV screen, select OK, and press ENTER.
- It takes approximately 5 minutes to start updating after the software has been downloaded.
- When the message Update to a new software version. Never turn off power while performing update. Current version M28.R.xxxx New version M28.R.0534 is displayed on the TV screen, select Start, and then press ENTER.
- The update starts.
- When the message Update Caution is displayed on the TV screen, select OK, and then press ENTER.
- During the update, you see message UPDT on the front panel display.
- The firmware upgrade is completed when the message DONE displays on the front panel display. Don't turn the Sound Bar off or disconnect it from the power while it's updating.
- The Sound Bar will automatically restart once the upgrade completes.
Step 2: Confirm that the update was successful
- Check the firmware version. If the version number is M28.R.0534, the firmware update was successful.
Troubleshooting
What to do if you have problems updating your Sound Bar firmware using the internet.
- If the message Update failed. Connect the USB memory containing the update files to retry. If the update fails again, please contact the customer service center is displayed on the TV screen:
- Make sure the router and all devices connected between the Sound Bar and the router are switched on.
- Make sure the correct type of cable (straight or crossover) between the Sound Bar and the router is used.
- Make sure all the cables between the Sound Bar and the router are correctly connected.
- Try the update procedure again
Note: If you cannot perform the Update via Internet, try the Update via USB Memory procedure. - If, after the Update via Internet procedure has started, the message Download capacity: xxxxxxKB/xxxxxKB and xx% is display in TV screen is displayed but the progress bar on the display has not changed. Note: Depending on the network connection, the Update via Internet procedure can take a long time (up to 60 minutes). That is why the message Download capacity: xxxxxxKB/xxxxxKB and xx% is display in TV screen is displayed and the progress bar on the display will not change for a long time.
- If, when running the Update via Internet procedure, the TV displays the message, Connection status cannot be confirmed. Cannot communicate with the server. Please try again later. and you cannot perform the firmware upgrade:
- Make sure the LAN cable is connected.
- Make sure you have confirmed whether or not your Sound Bar has its own IP address in the network settings. (If you use a proxy server, type the IP address of the proxy you use into the Proxy Server field instead of the proxy host name.)
- Try the update again.
- If the power went off while the update was in progress, turn the Sound Bar on and try the update again.
- If the update has been going for over 60 minutes and hasn't finished and the Sound Bar is connected via wireless to the network, connect with a cable to the network and try the procedure again. If the problem continues, the network transmission speed may be low. In that case please try to update your system following the Update via USB Memory procedure.
- If the message This device is not connected to network. Perform network diagnostics in the connection server setting is displayed on TV screen, check whether the LAN cable is connected to Sound Bar.
- If the message Already Updated is displayed on TV screen, the firmware version currently installed on the Sound Bar is the latest version.
Update via USB Memory Device and your PC
We recommend you use the Internet to update if you can. If not, you can use this method instead. You'll download the update to your computer, transfer it to a USB memory device, then transfer it to your Sound Bar.
Preparations for Firmware Update
Before downloading the firmware, please ensure that your computer is running one of the following operating systems and prepare USB flash drive.

Step 1: Install the update
- Read and agree to the terms and conditions.
- Download the file UPDATE_M28R0534.zip to your computer, making sure to remember the directory.
- Find the file on your computer, right-click on it and click Properties. Check the size is 201 MB 211 045 006 bytes.
Transfer the update files to the USB storage device:
- Extract the update file from the UPDATE_M28R0534.zip file.
- For Mac:
- Go to the location where the file was downloaded and double-click the UPDATE_M28R0534.zip file.
- A new folder will be created called UPDATE.
- For Windows:
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the UPDATE_M28R0534.zip file, and then click Extract All. Note: For Windows 8.1, Windows 10, the default settings for Internet Explorer will save the file in the Downloads folder. To locate the Downloads folder, click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and then locate the downloaded file using Windows Explorer.
- At the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window, click Extract.
- A new folder will be created called UPDATE. Note: Four files will be extracted: MSB28-FW.BIN, MSB28-FW.ID, MSB28-FW_MB.BIN, and MSB28FW_MB.ID.
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the UPDATE_M28R0534.zip file, and then click Extract All.
- For Mac:
- Connect a compatible USB storage device to your computer.
- Transfer the UPDATE folder to the USB storage device:
- For Mac: Drag and drop the UPDATE folder to the root folder of the USB device.
- For Windows:
- Go to the directory where the folder was created, and then right-click the UPDATE folder.
- From the menu, click Send To..., and then click the drive that represents your USB device (e.g. Removable Disk E:).
- The UPDATE folder will be copied onto your USB device.
Note: The update will not be performed if the folder is not copied to the root directory of the USB device or if the name of the folder is modified. - After copying the UPDATE folder, remove the USB device from your computer
Transfer the update to your Sound Bar
First get the equipment ready, then transfer the update to your Sound Bar.
Get the equipment ready:
- Turn on your TV and check it is tuned to the input your Sound Bar is connected to. (So if the Sound Bar is connected to the HDMI2 port, choose HDMI2 as the input).
- Turn on the Sound Bar.
- Press HOME on remote control and wait until you see the HOME screen.
- Insert USB that contains the 4 files.
Transfer the update:
- At the HOME screen, using the arrow keys on the remote control, select Setup → Software Update, and then press ENTER.
- Select Update via USB Memory, and then press ENTER.
- When the message Update files found in the USB memory. Do you want to update software? Current version M28.R.xxxx New version M28.R.0534. Do not turn off the power or remove the USB memory during the update. is displayed, select OK, and press ENTER.
- When the message Update Caution is displayed, select OK, and then press ENTER.
- The update starts
- During the update, you will see message UPDT on the front panel display.
- The firmware update is completed when the message DONE displays on the front panel display. The Sound Bar will restart automatically. Note: Do not disconnect the power cord during the update process.
Step 2: Confirm that the update was successful
- Check the firmware version. If the version number is M28.R.0534, the firmware update was successful
Troubleshooting
What to do if you have problems updating your Sound Bar firmware using your PC and a USB Memory.
- If UPDT and ERROR are displayed alternately on the front panel display:
- Turn off the system and disconnect the AC power cord.
- Turn on the power of the Sound Bar.
- Try the Update via USB Memory procedure again.
- If the power went off while the update was in progress, turn on the Sound Bar and follow the Update via USB Memory procedure again.
- If the UPDATE_M28R0534.zip file you downloaded from the update web site cannot be extracted, delete the file and download it again.
- If the update has been going for over 30 minutes and hasn't finished:
- Disconnect the AC power cord, then reconnect it after several minutes
- Turn on the Sound Bar
- Try the update procedure again
