Read this section before starting the update.
This update uses the Sony | Sound Connect app. Please refer to this page for the update procedure.

Preparation
Check the Firmware Version
You can check the firmware version as follows:
- Launch the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- Connect your speaker to the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- Tap the three dots (Menu button) in the upper right corner of the app.
Note: The LinkBuds Speaker will appear on the Menu screen once it is connected.
- Select the version of your speaker shown on the Menu screen.
- Confirm the firmware version.
Important Notice
- Do not turn off your speaker while downloading updates, transferring data, or updating the firmware. Doing so may cause the speaker to stop working.
- Do not perform the update in a location where the Wi-Fi signal is inconsistent, such as on a train, in a place where Wi-Fi signals become congested, or near a microwave, cordless phone, or any other devices that use the 2.4 GHz band frequency radio waves.
- Make sure both devices (the Android device/iPhone and speaker) are fully charged.
- In the Sony | Sound Connect app, set the Automatic Power Off function (power-off function when non-equipped) to Do not turn off.
Note: You can restore this setting after the update is complete. - Disconnect all other Bluetooth devices such as wearable devices or smartwatches from your Android device or iPhone before starting the update.
Before You Upgrade
- After updating, the firmware cannot be reverted to an earlier version.
- For Android devices, the update process will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
- For iPhones, the update process will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
- Depending on the radio wave environment and your Android device/iPhone, it may take longer to complete.
Download & Install
To update the speaker, follow the procedure below:
- Download the data from the server to the Android device/iPhone.
- Transfer the data from the Android device/iPhone to the speaker.
- Complete the update using the speaker.
Step 1: Install the Update
- Launch the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- Connect your speaker to the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- If you have never connected to the app before, follow the instructions on the screen to connect the speaker to your Android device/iPhone.
- If you have connected to the app before, select your speaker in the Menu.
- The following screen will appear when the connection is successful.
- If an update is applicable, a latest audio device software is available message will appear. Press More info to continue.
- Verify that Version 2180 is displayed, then press START to begin the update.
- The next screen automatically appears after the download is completed.
Note: When the message Bluetooth Pairing Request appears, press Pair. The update will continue. (Only for iPhone). - The transfer starts. The next screen automatically appears after the transfer is completed.
- When the message [Update the audio device software] appears, press START.
Note: Do not turn off your speaker while updating. Doing so may cause the speaker to stop working. If a disconnection message appears, wait approximately three minutes for the speaker to automatically reconnect. - When the software update is completed, press OK.
Note: If the screen does not appear, continue to the next step to check if the update was successful.
Step 2: Check the Update Was Successful
After the update, confirm the new version was installed successfully by following the steps in the Check the Firmware Version section of this page. If the firmware version shown is 2180, the upgrade was successful.
Questions & Answers
An update error message appears.
Follow these steps:
- Press OK.
- Restart the speaker (turn the power off and then on).
- Restart the Sony | Sound Connect app, then try the update again.
Even if an error message appears, confirm the firmware version in the Sony | Sound Connect app. Refer to the Check the Firmware Version section of this page for details. If the version appears as 2180, the firmware update was successful. If not, try the update again.
