Support levels for an upgrade to the Windows® XP operating system.

The support levels for an upgrade to the Windows XP operating system are listed below:

• Operating system support will be provided only if the Windows XP operating system upgrade supplied by Sony is installed.
• VAIO® computers that ship with the Windows Me operating system are only supported for an upgrade to the Windows XP Home Edition operating system and hardware. Sony will make driver and software updates available on the Sony® eSupport Web site at https://esupport.sony.com. However, Sony does not assure that all functions will be available after upgrading to the Windows XP Home Edition operating system.
• VAIO computers that ship with the Windows 2000 Professional operating system are only supported for an upgrade to the Windows XP Professional operating system and hardware. Sony will make driver and software updates available on the Sony eSupport Web site at https://esupport.sony.com. However, Sony does not assure that all functions will be available after upgrading to the Windows XP Professional operating system.
• VAIO computers that ship with the Windows XP Home Edition operating system and are then upgraded to the Windows XP Professional operating system are supported for utilization of the original Application Recovery CDs (ARCDs) and Driver Recovery CDs (DRCDs) to reinstall Sony drivers and applications only. Sony will provide support for the drivers and applications, but not the operating system in these cases.
• Sony does not currently plan to provide drivers and updates, and does not assure or support operation of the Windows XP operating system for VAIO computers manufactured prior to September 1, 2000, or that shipped with the Windows 95 or 98 operating system.
