Before you start
Step 1: Power Reset
First, perform a Power Reset if you still need to. A Power Reset doesn't usually reset settings such as those mentioned below. Warning to factory settings. If you have already performed the Power Reset, proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Factory Data Reset
WARNING! A Factory data reset deletes all customized settings, including channels, account information (such as a Google account, system and applications data, downloaded apps, wired and Wi-Fi network settings, parental lock settings, and camera device data. The TV will return to how it was at the time of purchase.
Select your TV type:
- Open the Settings screen.
- If the remote control has a Quick Settings ( or ) button, press the Quick Settings button and select Settings.
- If the remote control does not have a Quick Settings ( or ) button, press the HOME button and select Settings.
Note: If the (Quick Settings) button on the remote control doesn't work, refer to Using the Help menu. (Except for models released in 2024, W8K, W8L, X75K, and X77L series.) - Select System.
- Select About.
- Select Reset.
- Select Factory data reset.
Note: If you don't want to proceed with the Factory data reset, select Cancel. - Select Erase everything.
Using the Help menu
- On the TV remote control, press the HELP button or press the (Input) button, and then select Help.
Note: If Help is not shown in the input selection screen, select Edit and add Help. - Select Manual (Help Guide).
- Select Settings.
- Select Using the Quick Settings.
- Select Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Select Reset.
- Select Factory data reset.
- Select Erase everything.
Notes:
- Some of the application's data might be recovered if Apps synced with your Google™ account. Follow these steps depending on your TV menu:
- HOME →Settings → Device Preferences or Accounts & Sign-In → Google → Choose synced apps → select items that sync with an account → Sync now
- HOME → Settings → Google → Choose synced apps in Sync → select items that sync with an account → Sync now
- HOME → Settings → Personal → Google → Choose synced apps in Sync → select items that sync with an account → Sync now
- The factory reset may take a few moments. Please wait until you are informed that the process has been completed.
- After the Factory Reset process is completed, your TV will proceed to the Initial Setup wizard. You will need to agree to the Google Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.
- If you use a Touchpad remote control, the pairing sequence will have to be activated again after a factory reset.
How to perform a Factory data reset
The operation procedure varies depending on the status of the TV.
Note: The display screen may differ depending on the model or OS version.
- Turn on the TV.
- Press the HOME button on the remote control.
Note: If the HOME button on the remote control doesn't work, refer to If the Home screen can't be displayed. - Select Settings.
- The following steps will depend on your TV menu options:
- Select Device Preferences →Reset.
- Select Device Preferences → About → Reset, Factory reset, or Factory data reset.
- Select Storage & Reset.
- Select Factory data reset or Reset.
- Select Erase Everything.
Notes:
- If asked to provide a password, enter the Parental lock (Broadcast) password.
- For X7 and W8 series: Skip this step.
- Select Yes.
Note: If the Home screen can't be displayed (the HOME button on the remote control doesn't work), check the following.
For X74H_X75H, X7, and W8 series
If there is a response when you press the ACTION or Quick Settings button on the remote control, follow the procedure below.
- Press the ACTION or Quick Settings button on the remote control.
- Select Settings.
- Select Device Preferences.
- The following steps will depend on your TV menu options:
- Select About → Factory reset or Factory data reset → Factory data reset.
- Select Reset.
- Select About → Reset.
For other models
If there is a response when you press the HELP button on the remote control, follow the procedure below.
The display screen may differ depending on the model or OS version.
- Turn on the TV.
- Press the HELP button on the remote control.
- In How to use your TV, select Manual (Help Guide) or Help Guide.
- Select Settings.
- Select Configuring the TV.
- Select Watching TV or TV.
- Select Settings.
- The following steps will depend on your TV menu options:
- Select Device Preferences → Reset.
- Select Storage & reset.
- Select Factory data reset.
- Select Erase Everything.
Note: : If asked to provide a password, enter the Parental lock (Broadcast) password. - Select Yes.
Step 3 - Forced Factory data reset
If the customer can't perform the normal Factory Reset operation due to issues such as not operating the TV screen with the remote control, they can try a forced Factory Reset.
WARNING! If perform forced Factory data reset, then Demo data for retail will also be erased from internal storage.
IMPORTANT:
- This procedure may require two people.
- If you can access the TV menu, perform a Factory data reset instead.
- The location of the buttons and specifications may vary depending on the TV. Refer to the reference guide for details.
Follow these steps to perform a forced Factory data reset.
For W8K, X75K, and X77L Series
- Unplug the TV's AC power cord from the electrical socket.
- Press and hold the Power button on the TV (not on the remote control), and then (while holding the button down) plug the AC power cord back in. Continue to hold the buttons down until the Erasing screen appears.
Note: The LED light will take approximately 10-30 seconds to turn white. - Release the button after the Erasing screen appears.
Note: If the Erasing screen doesn't turn white within 60 seconds, start from Step 1 again. - Wait a few minutes for the Factory data reset process to take place. After completion, the TV will reboot automatically, and the Welcome screen will appear.
- When the Welcome setup screen appears, perform the setup.
Note: If the Welcome setup screen doesn't appear, unplug the AC power cord and then plug it back in.
If the forced Factory data reset didn't resolve the issue, repeat the procedure starting from Step 1.
Other Google TV models
- Unplug the TV's AC power cord from the electrical socket.
- Press and hold the Power on the TV (not on the remote control), and then (while holding the button down) plug the AC power cord back in. Continue to hold the buttons down until the white LED light appears.
Note: The LED light will take approximately 10-30 seconds to turn white. - Release the button after the white LED light appears.
Note: If the LED light doesn't turn white within 30 seconds, start Step 1 again.
- Wait a few minutes for the Factory data reset process to take place. The TV will reboot (turn on and off) twice.
Note: If the TV doesn't turn back ON automatically, press the Power button to turn the TV back ON. - When the Welcome setup screen appears, perform the setup.
Note: If the Welcome setup screen doesn't appear, unplug the AC power cord and then plug it back in.
If the forced Factory data reset didn't resolve the issue, repeat the procedure starting from Step 1.
