Does the Screen Reader or TalkBack Function Work with YouTube on My Android TV?

Things to Know

• To use the TalkBack function on the YouTube™ app, enable the setting on your Android TV™.
• Make sure to disable the TalkBack function after using it.

Android™ 7.0 Nougat

• To enable TalkBack:

  1. On the supplied remote control, press the HOME button.
  2. Press the Down arrow button continuously to highlight Settings.
  3. Press the Enter button.
  4. Press the Down button to highlight Accessibility.
  5. Press the Enter button.
  6. Press the Down button to highlight TalkBack.

     

  7. Press the Enter button.
  8. Highlight On.
  9. Press the Enter button.
  10. Press the back button to exit the TalkBack settings.
      • You will hear TalkBack On.

• To enable the YouTube app:

  Press the Mic button on your remote control and say YouTube.

  • This action launches YouTube.

• To disable TalkBack:

  1. On the supplied remote control, press the HOME button.
     • You will hear Home screen.
  2. Press the Down button continuously until you hear Settings is selected, press on, press shift, press enter to activate.
  3. Press the Enter button.
     • You will hear Channel setup.
  4. Press the Down button continuously until you hear Accessibility, press on, press shift, press enter to activate.
  5. Press the Enter button.
     • You will hear Subtitle.
  6. Press the Down button continuously until you hear TalkBack on, press on, press shift, press enter to activate.
  7. Press the Enter button.
     • You will hear Enable.
  8. Press the Enter button.
     • You will hear OK, in list 2 items.
  9. Press the Enter button.
     • You will hear Enable.
  10. Press the Back button to exit the TalkBack setting.
      • You will hear TalkBack Off.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow

• To enable the TalkBack function:

  1. On the supplied remote control, press the HOME button.
  2. Press the Down arrow button continuously to highlight Settings.
  3. Press the Enter button.
  4. Press the Down button continuously to highlight System Preferences.
  5. Press the Right arrow button continuously to highlight Accessibility.
  6. Press the Enter button.
  7. Press the Down button to highlight Services.
  8. Press the Enter button.
  9. Press the Down button continuously to highlight TalkBack.
  10. Press the Enter button.
  11. Select On.
  12. Press the Enter button.
  13. Press the Right button, select Agree.
  14. Press the Enter button.
  15. Press the Back button to exit the TalkBack setting.
      • You will hear TalkBack On.

• To launch the YouTube app:

  Press the Mic button on the remote control and say YouTube.

  • This action launches YouTube.

• To disable the TalkBack function:

  1. On the supplied remote control, press the HOME button.
     • You will hear Home screen.
  2. Press the Down button continuously until you hear Settings.
  3. Press the Enter button.
     • You will hear Channel setup.
  4. Press the Down button continuously until you hear Date & Time.
  5. Press the Right arrow continuously until you hear Accessibility.
  6. Press the Enter button.
     • You will hear Subtitle.
  7. Press the Down continuously until you hear Services.
  8. Press the Enter button.
     • You will hear Screen Reader On.
  9. Press the Down button continuously until you hear TalkBack on.
  10. Press the Enter button.
      • You will hear State on.
  11. Press the Enter button.
      • You will hear On.
  12. Press the Down to select Off.
      • You will hear Off.
  13. Press the Enter button.
      • You will hear Alert Stop TalkBack.
  14. Press the Right arrow button, select OK.
      • You will hear OK button.
  15. Press the Enter button.
  16. Press the Back button to exit the TalkBack settings.
      • You will hear TalkBack Off.
