The Screen reader works by vocalizing information on the TV screen, such as the program guide and setting screens. To use the screen reader function, an internet connection is necessary.
Activating the screen reader function from the Settings menu
Note: Activating the screen reader function on TVs with eARC will deactivate the eARC mode.
- On the supplied remote, press the HOME button.
- Select Settings, then press the Enter button. The location of Settings depends on the Android OS version.
- For Android 9 and Android 8.0, the Settings icon is located in the upper right corner of the Home menu. Press and hold the Up arrow button for about three seconds, press and hold the Right arrow button for about two seconds to select Settings, then press the Enter button.
- For Android 7.0, the Settings icon is located in the lower-left corner of the Home menu. Press and hold the Down arrow button for about three seconds, press and hold the Left arrow button for about two seconds to select Settings, then press the Enter button.
- For Android 9 only, otherwise, continue to the next step: Press the Down arrow button to select Device Preferences, then press the Enter button.
- Press the Down arrow button to select Accessibility, then press the Enter button.
- Press the Down arrow button to select Screen reader, then press the Enter button.
- Select Enable, then press the Enter button.
- Select OK, then press the Enter button.
Stopping (deactivating) the screen reader function using the Settings menu
- On the supplied remote, press the HOME button.
- Select Settings, then press the Enter button. The location of Settings depends on the Android OS version.
- For Android 9 and Android 8.0, the Settings icon is located in the upper right corner of the Home menu. Press and hold the Up arrow button for about three seconds, press and hold the Right arrow button for about two seconds to select Settings, then press the Enter button.
- For Android 7.0, the Settings icon is located in the lower-left corner of the Home menu. Press and hold the Down arrow button for about three seconds, press and hold the Left arrow button for about two seconds to select Settings, then press the Enter button.
- For Android 9 only, otherwise, continue to the next step: Press the Down arrow button to select Device Preferences, then press the Enter button.
- Press the Down arrow button to select Accessibility, then press the Enter button.
- Press the Down arrow button to select Screen reader, then press the Enter button.
- To stop the screen reader, press the Enter button when you hear "Enable On". The screen reader settings will switch to Off.
- When you hear "OK", press the Enter button to stop the screen reader.
Changing the language
- On the supplied remote, press the HOME button.
- Select Settings, then press the Enter button. The location of Settings depends on the Android OS version.
- For Android 9 and Android 8.0, the Settings icon is located in the upper right corner of the Home menu. Press and hold the Up arrow button for about three seconds, press and hold the Right arrow button for about two seconds to select Settings, then press the Enter button.
- For Android 7.0, the Settings icon is located in the lower-left corner of the Home menu. Press and hold the Down arrow button for about three seconds, press and hold the Left arrow button for about two seconds to select Settings, then press the Enter button.
- For Android 9 only, otherwise, continue to the next step: Press the Down arrow button to select Device Preferences, then press the Enter button.
- Press the Down arrow button to select Accessibility, then press the Enter button.
- Press the Down arrow button to select Text to speech, then press the Enter button.
- Press the Down arrow button to select Engine configuration, then press the Enter button.
- Press the Down arrow button to select Language, then press the Enter button.
- Select your preferred language from the list, then press the Enter button.
- The screen reader function works when the language in Settings matches the language selected in Engine configuration.
Changing the speech rate
- On the supplied remote, press the HOME button.
- Select Settings, then press the Enter button. The location of Settings depends on the Android OS version.
- For Android 9 and Android 8.0, the Settings icon is located in the upper right corner of the Home menu. Press and hold the Up arrow button for about three seconds, press and hold the Right arrow button for about two seconds to select Settings, then press the Enter button.
- For Android 7.0, the Settings icon is located in the lower-left corner of the Home menu. Press and hold the Down arrow button for about three seconds, press and hold the Left arrow button for about two seconds to select Settings, then press the Enter button.
- For Android 9 only, otherwise, continue to the next step: Press the Down arrow button to select Device Preferences, then press the Enter button.
- Press the Down arrow button to select Accessibility, then press the Enter button.
- Press the Down arrow button to select Text to speech, then press the Enter button.
- Press the Down arrow button to select Speech rate, then press the Enter button.
- Select your preferred speech rate from Very slow to Fastest, then press the Enter button.
Notes:
- The screen reader function only reads text you can focus on or highlight.
- The screen reader function is available only for some countries and languages.
- The screen reader function for apps depends on the app itself.
- As of February 2020, the YouTube™ streaming service is available with the screen reader function. This specification may change without notice.
- When the Screen reader function is set to ON, some edit options, including Move and Hide in Inputs, might not work.
- When the Screen reader function is set to ON, some Quick Settings edit options might not work.
- Models released in the United States support vocalized channel changing.
- When the screen reader function is activated, eARC mode is set to off for eARC supported models.
- The Accessibility shortcut function can switch to either enable or disable the screen reader function on applicable products.
