Before You Start
Determine Whether or Not This Firmware Update is Needed for Your Camera
This update only applies for MHS-FS1 and MHS-FS1K Bloggie cameras that currently have a firmware version lower than 1.17. If your camera firmware version is already version 1.17 or higher, this update is not needed.
How to check your camera's firmware version:
- Push the ON/OFF button to power on the camera.
- As soon as the "bloggie" logo appears on the screen, press and hold the MOVIE/ENTER button.
Note: The "bloggie" logo appears only for a second or two. If you do not press the MOVIE/ENTER button before the logo disappears, power off the camera and try again.
- The firmware version is displayed briefly on the lower right part of the screen.
- If the version is lower than 1.17, please continue with this update. If the version is 1.17 or higher, this update is not needed.
Important Notes
- WARNING!: This update is only for use with the Sony® MHS-FS1 and MHS-FS1K Bloggie cameras that currently have a firmware version 1.16 or lower. Do not install this update on any other camera.
- Please make a backup copy or note of the personal settings and data stored in the camera before updating the firmware.
- This update requires a computer with one of the following factory installed operating systems:
- Microsoft® Windows® 8
- Microsoft Windows 7
- Microsoft Windows Vista® (with Service Pack 2)
Note: Starter Editions of Windows Vista are not supported. - Microsoft Windows XP (with Service Pack 3)
Note: 64-bit versions of Windows XP are not supported. - Mac OS® X (version 10.3 - 10.6)
- Please make a backup copy of images stored in the camera's internal memory before performing the update.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.
Download & Install
Download the Update and Copy it to the Camera
- Click the "Download Now" link at the top or bottom of this page.
- At the "Software Agreement" dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "Accept Agree" to continue with the download.
- Download the MHS-FS1.bin file to a temporary or download folder (please note this folder for reference).
- Connect the camera to the computer and copy the MHS-FS1.bin file to the camera.
Steps for Windows
- Connect the camera to the computer using the supplied USB connection support cable and then power on the camera.
- "USB Mode/Mass Storage" is displayed on the camera screen.
- The computer will detect two drives:
- BLOGGIE(D:)
- Bloggie Software(E:) or BLOGGIE_SW(E:)
- If LUN Settings is set to Single, the computer will detect only one drive, BLOGGIE(D:)
- The drive letters will vary depending on your computer configuration.
- Double-click the icon of the BLOGGIE drive to open it. This is the camera's internal memory.
- Copy the MHS-FS1.bin file to the camera's internal memory.
- Use the USB connection icon in the tasktray to stop the USB Mass Storage Device, and then disconnect the camera from the computer.
- Disconnect the USB connection support cable from the camera.
Steps for Mac OS X
- Connect the camera to the computer using the supplied USB connection support cable and then power on the camera.
- "USB Mode/Mass Storage" is displayed on the camera screen.
- The computer will detect two drives:
- BLOGGIE
- BLOGGIE_SW
- Double-click the icon of the BLOGGIE drive to open it. This is the camera's internal memory.
- Copy the MHS-FS1.bin file to the camera's internal memory.
- Drag and drop the icon of the BLOGGIE drive to the Trash icon, and then disconnect the camera from the computer.
- Disconnect the USB connection support cable from the camera.
Update the Camera Firmware
- Power on the camera and confirm that the battery icon at the upper right corner of the screen shows that the battery is fully charged.
- Press the ON/OFF button to power off the camera.
- Press the ON/OFF button again to power the camera on.
- The firmware update starts automatically.
Note: While the update is in progress the word "Updating" flashes on the camera screen.
WARNING!: During the update process do not power off the camera. Interrupting the firmware update may cause the camera to function incorrectly. - After about 30 seconds the camera automatically shuts down.
Confirm the Successful Update (optional)
- Push the ON/OFF button to power on the camera.
- As soon as the "bloggie" logo appears on the screen, press and hold the MOVIE/ENTER button.
Note: The "bloggie" logo appears only for a second or two. If you do not press the MOVIE/ENTER button before the logo disappears, power off the camera and try again.
- The firmware version is displayed briefly on the lower right part of the screen.
- If the version is 1.17 the update was successful.
