Before You Start

Determine Whether or Not This Firmware Update is Needed for Your Camera

This update only applies for MHS-FS3 and MHS-FS3K Bloggie cameras that currently have a firmware version lower than 1.09. If your camera firmware version is already version 1.09 or higher, this update is not needed.


How to check your camera's firmware version:

  1. Push the ON/OFF button to power on the camera.
  2. As soon as the "bloggie" logo appears on the screen, press and hold the MOVIE/ENTER button.
    Note: The "bloggie" logo appears only for a second or two. If you do not press the MOVIE/ENTER button before the logo disappears, power off the camera and try again.

  3. The firmware version is displayed briefly on the lower right part of the screen.

  4. If the version is lower than 1.09, please continue with this update. If the version is 1.09 or higher, this update is not needed.

Important Notes

  • WARNING!: This update is only for use with the Sony® MHS-FS3 and MHS-FS3K Bloggie cameras that currently have a firmware version 1.07 or lower. Do not install this update on any other camera.
  • Please make a backup copy or note of the personal settings and data stored in the camera before updating the firmware.
  • This update requires a computer with one of the following factory installed operating systems:
    • Microsoft® Windows® 8
    • Microsoft Windows 7
    • Microsoft Windows Vista® (with Service Pack 2)
      Note: Starter Editions of Windows Vista are not supported.
    • Microsoft Windows XP (with Service Pack 3)
      Note: 64-bit of Windows XP are not supported.
    • Mac OS® X (version 10.3 - 10.6)
  • Please make a backup copy of images stored in the camera's internal memory before performing the update.
  • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Download & Install

Download the Update and Copy it to the Camera

  1. Click the "Download Now" link at the top or bottom of this page.
  2. At the "Software Agreement" dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "Accept Agree" to continue with the download.
  3. Download the MHS-FS3.bin file to a temporary or download folder (please note this folder for reference).
  4. Connect the camera to the computer and copy the MHS-FS3.bin file to the camera.

    Steps for Windows

    1. Connect the camera to the computer using the supplied USB connection support cable and then power on the camera.
    2. "USB Mode/Mass Storage" is displayed on the camera screen.
    3. The computer will detect two drives:
      • BLOGGIE(D:)
      • Bloggie Software(E:) or BLOGGIE_SW(E:)
      Notes:
      • If LUN Settings is set to Single, the computer will detect only one drive, BLOGGIE(D:)
      • The drive letters will vary depending on your computer configuration.
    4. Double-click the icon of the BLOGGIE drive to open it. This is the camera's internal memory.
    5. Copy the MHS-FS3.bin file to the camera's internal memory.
    6. Use the USB connection icon in the tasktray to stop the USB Mass Storage Device, and then disconnect the camera from the computer.
    7. Disconnect the USB connection support cable from the camera.

    Steps for Mac OS X

    1. Connect the camera to the computer using the supplied USB connection support cable and then power on the camera.
    2. "USB Mode/Mass Storage" is displayed on the camera screen.
    3. The computer will detect two drives:
      • BLOGGIE
      • BLOGGIE_SW
      Note: If LUN Settings is set to Single, the computer will detect only one drive, BLOGGIE
    4. Double-click the icon of the BLOGGIE drive to open it. This is the camera's internal memory.
    5. Copy the MHS-FS3.bin file to the camera's internal memory.
    6. Drag and drop the icon of the BLOGGIE drive to the Trash icon, and then disconnect the camera from the computer.
    7. Disconnect the USB connection support cable from the camera.

Update the Camera Firmware

  1. Power on the camera and confirm that the battery icon at the upper right corner of the screen shows that the battery is fully charged. Battery Icon
  2. Press the ON/OFF button to power off the camera.
  3. Press the ON/OFF button again to power the camera on.
  4. The firmware update starts automatically.
    Note: While the update is in progress the word "Updating" flashes on the camera screen.
    WARNING!: During the update process do not power off the camera. Interrupting the firmware update may cause the camera to function incorrectly.
  5. After about 30 seconds the camera automatically shuts down.

Confirm the Successful Update (optional)

  1. Push the ON/OFF button to power on the camera.
  2. As soon as the "bloggie" logo appears on the screen, press and hold the MOVIE/ENTER button.
    Note: The "bloggie" logo appears only for a second or two. If you do not press the MOVIE/ENTER button before the logo disappears, power off the camera and try again.
