Before You Start

Determine Whether Your Camera Needs this Firmware Update

This update is only for use with MHS-TS10, MHS-TS20, or MHS-TS20K Bloggie™ cameras that currently have a firmware version lower than 1.04 or lower. If your camera firmware version is already version 1.05, this update is not necessary.


How to check your camera's firmware version:

  1. With the camera powered off, press and hold down the Movie button.
  2. While continuing to hold the Movie button, press and hold down the ON/OFF (power) button to power on the camera.

Control Locations
  1. The current firmware version is displayed for about 4 seconds at the bottom of the screen between the Self Timer Self Timer Button button and the Playback Playback Button button.
  2. If the version is 1.04 or lower, please continue with this update. If the version is 1.05 or higher, this update is not necessary.

Important Notes

  • WARNING!: This update is only for use with MHS-TS10, MHS-TS20, or MHS-TS20K Bloggie cameras. Do not install this update on any other camera.
  • Please make a backup copy or note of the personal settings and data stored in the camera before updating the firmware.
  • Please make a backup copy of images stored in the camera's internal memory before performing the update.
  • Check the battery indicator to make sure it shows that the camera battery is fully charged Full Battery Indicator.
  • This update requires a computer with one of the following factory installed operating systems:
    • Windows 8
    • Microsoft Windows 7
    • Microsoft Windows Vista® (with Service Pack 2)
      Note: Starter editions of Windows Vista are not supported.
    • Microsoft Windows XP (with Service Pack 3)
      Note: 64-bit versions of Windows XP are not supported.
    • Macintosh OS X (version 10.3 - 10.6)
  • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Download the Update and Copy it to the Camera (for Microsoft® Windows®)

  1. Click the "Download Now" link at the top or bottom of this page.
  2. At the "Software Agreement" dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "Accept Agree" to continue with the download.
  3. Download the FIRMWARE.BIN file to a temporary or download folder (please note this folder for reference).
  4. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
    Note: USB Mode / Mass Storage will be displayed on the screen.
  5. The computer will detect two drives:
    Note: The drive letters will vary depending on your computer configuration.
    • BLOGGIE(D:)
    • Bloggie Software(E:) or BLOGGIE_SW(E:)
    Note: If the LUN Settings is set to Single, the computer will detect just one drive, BLOGGIE(D:).
  6. Copy the FIRMWARE.BIN file to BLOGGIE(D:).
  7. Disconnect the camera from the computer.
    1. In the Windows Tasktray, double-click Safely Remove Hardware icon (Remove Hardware Icon or Remove Hardware Icon).
    2. Select the Bloggie camera, and then click stop.
    3. When the "Safe To Remove Hardware" message is displayed, disconnect the camera.

Download & Install

Download the Update and Copy it to the Camera (for Macintosh® OS X)

  1. Click the "Download Now" link at the top or bottom of this page.
  2. At the "Software Agreement" dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "Accept Agree" to continue with the download.
  3. Download the FIRMWARE.BIN file to a temporary or download folder (please note this folder for reference).
  4. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
    Note: USB Mode / Mass Storage will be displayed on the screen.
  5. The computer will detect two drives:
    • BLOGGIE
    • BLOGGIE_SW
    Note: If the LUN Settings is set to Single, the computer will detect just one drive, BLOGGIE.
  6. Copy the FIRMWARE.BIN file to BLOGGIE.
  7. Disconnect the camera from the computer
    Note: Drag and drop the drive icon to the Trash icon before disconnecting.

Update the Camera Firmware

Check the battery indicator to make sure it shows that the camera battery is fully charged Full Battery Indicator.

WARNING! Do not turn off the camera while the firmware update is in progress, or the camera may be damaged.

  1. Press the "ON/OFF" button to power off the camera.
  2. Press the "ON/OFF" button again power the camera on.
  3. The firmware update will start automatically.
    Note: "Updating" is displayed on the screen while the update is in progress.
  4. After about 10 seconds, the camera will automatically restart.

Confirm the Successful Update (optional)

  1. Power the camera off and then back on again and confirm that it is operating correctly.
    Note: If the camera will not power on, please contact Sony Support at 1-239-768-7547.
  1. With the camera powered off, press and hold down the Movie button.
  2. While continuing to hold the Movie button, press and hold down the ON/OFF (power) button to power on the camera.
