Preparation
Check the firmware version
If the firmware is version 4.0.1, you do not need to perform the update. If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:
- Launch the Sony | Headphones Connect app.
- Connect your headphones to the Sony | Headphones Connect app.
- Press the three dots (Menu) button in the upper right corner.
- Select the Version of your device shown in the Menu. This will only be shown when the device is connected to the Sony | Headphones Connect app.
- Confirm the firmware version.
Important Notice
- DO NOT turn the headphones off or tap the (Power) button.
- Do not perform the update in a location where the Wi-Fi signal is inconsistent, such as on a train, in a place where Wi-Fi signals become congested, or near a microwave, cordless phone, or any other devices that use the 2.4 GHz band frequency radio waves.
- Make sure both devices (Android or iOS devices and the headphones) are fully charged.
- In the Sony | Headphones Connect app, set the Automatic Power Off function (power-off function when non-equipped) to Do not turn off.
Note: You can restore this setting after the update is complete. - Disconnect all Bluetooth devices such as wearable devices or smart watches from your Android or iOS device before starting the update.
Before you upgrade
- Once updated, the firmware cannot be reverted to an earlier version.
- If you use an Android device, the update process will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
- If you use an iOS device, the update process will take approximately 60 minutes to complete.
- Depending on the radio wave environment and your Android or iOS device, it may take longer to complete.
- To update the headphones, follow the procedure below:
Note: If the Automatic download of software setting is enabled (factory default setting) in the Sony | Headphones Connect app, the download, and transfer of the software update are done automatically.- Download data from the server to the Android or iOS device.
- Transfer data from the Android or iOS device to the headphones.
Note: The headphones can continue to play music even while downloading updates and transferring data. However, the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa functions are unavailable while downloading and transferring. If the update fails, stop playing the music and try updating again. - Execute the update with the headphones.
Download & Install
To update the headphones, follow the procedure below:
- Download data from the server to the Android or iOS device.
- Transfer data from the Android or iOS device to the headphones.
- Execute the update with the headphones.
Step 1: Install the update
- Launch the Sony | Headphones Connect app.
- Connect your headphones to the Sony | Headphones Connect app.
- If you have never connected to the Sony | Headphones Connect app before, follow the instructions on the screen to connect with headphones.
- If you have connected to the Sony | Headphones Connect app before, select your headphones.
- The download and the transfer start, and after that, it will automatically move to the next screen after it is complete.
Note: When the Automatic download of software setting is enabled (factory default setting) on the Sony | Headphones Connect app, the download, and transfer of the software update is started automatically. If you have disabled the Automatic download of software setting on the Sony | Headphones Connect app, the download, and transfer of the software update will not start automatically and you will need to follow the procedure below:- Make sure both the R and L sides of the headphones are connected.
- The following screen will be shown when the connection has been established. If an update is applicable, the message The latest headphones software is available will be displayed and you can press MORE INFO.
- Move to the Update Software screen. Verify that Version 4.0.1 is displayed and press START (Android) or Start (iOS).
- Update the headphones software will be displayed and you can press MORE INFO.
- Move to the Update Software screen. Verify that Version 4.0.1 is displayed and press START (Android) or Start (iOS).
- The update process will start and take a few minutes to complete.
Note: During the update, the headphones turn off automatically, but please wait because they will automatically turn back on and reconnect via Bluetooth before the update is completed. - When the software update is completed, press OK.
Step 2: Check the update was successful
After the update, confirm that the new version has been installed successfully by following the steps in the Check the firmware version section. If the firmware version shown is 4.0.1, the upgrade was successful.
Questions & Answers
An update error message appears.
- Press OK.
- Restart (insert them in the case and remove them from the case) the headphones.
- After that, restart the Sony | Headphones Connect app and update again.
Even though the update failed during the process, check the firmware version. If the version shown is 4.0.1, the firmware update was successful. If not, try the firmware update again.
