Hinge rotation and storage info for the WH-1000XM4 and WH-1000XM5 headphones

    Why do my Headphones swivel

Headphone swivel typically refers to the ability of headphone earcups to rotate or swivel. The primary purpose of swiveling earcups is to enhance the comfort and fit of your headphones. When you wear them, especially for extended periods, it's essential that they comfortably match the shape of your head and ears for a secure and pleasant fit. Swiveling earcups are also convenient for storage and portability.

Pay attention to resistance when rotating the earcups

If you rotate the earcups opposite to the case shape, you will feel resistance. This resistance point indicates you should not use further excess force to push the earcups in that direction.

If you cause the earcups to go beyond the resistance point, the headphone earcups will overstretch their rotation. Overstretching can cause a 360-degree rotation, resulting in weaknesses that may lead to internal cable damage or loose hinges.

IMPORTANT: There is no tone or sound to indicate when the earcups are overstretching, so always pay attention to your headphones' resistance.

Proper handling and storage for your headphones

The best way to protect your headphones is to store them in the supplied protective case. The case ensures your headphones are folded correctly and offers solid protection against external pressures and the elements.

The WH-1000XM4 and WH-1000XM5 headphones' hinges smoothly rotate inwards to match their unique case shape.  You rotate the earcups to store the headphones in their protective case when not in use.

IMPORTANT: The WH-1000XM4 headphones have a unique design. To avoid accidental physical damage when putting these headphones on or in the case, please refer to this page from the WH-1000XM4 Help Guide.
