A big step forward!
ILCE-9M3 24 September 2024 (United Kingdom)
This is my second a9 camera, I now have both an a9ii and an a9iii. The differences between the two cameras represent a big step forward so it seems to me Sony have listened to feedback from professionals who use the a9 series day in and day out. The one down-side is that the a9iii now warns you via a message if you use a non-Sony battery but that message can be dismissed. I think this is unnecessary and probably a trick by Sony to encourage use of Sony batteries.

Bought this to pair up with the FE 300mm F2.8, and the production is outstanding for its overall size and weight. The pre-capture is amazing and C5 Speed Boost button on the front is remarkably positioned. The AF accuracy for fast moving action is extraordinary. See pics attached.

With the global shutter I can shoot in electronic shutter at all speeds that is quiet (or with adjustable sound) and shock less, it's like shooting with a leaf shutter. Some of Sony other cameras the mechanical shutter is very loud and you can feel the shock when shooting. Some of the Sony cameras cannot use electronic shutter with flash, so not suitable if you need to be quiet and use a flash. But the A9iii has no such issue. While it can be black out free, I set it to have black out so it easier to see that I have shot. It's very ergonomic to hold and use with lots of customisable buttons and a very nice grip. Some of the Sony cameras have less buttons, so not so easy to shoot and changes things fast when you have to rely on the touch screen. The so called lower image quality and dynamic range are a non issue for me as for what I shoot, I have not encountered that to be a limitation. I even shot a dog at a pet festival at ISO 51,200, while the JPEG non processed was noisy, its not too bad and cleaning up from the ARW raw file, with DXO Pure Raw 4, it cleaned up very nicely, looking both cleaner and sharper. See attached photos. I don't really see myself needing to shoot beyond ISO 12,800 so it won't be an issue. For video, mostly I shoot indoor with sufficient ambient lighting, and also seems good and around the ISO 800-6400 is the range I shoot. I mainly shoot at 60p, so the non crop and oversampling are a big plus. I also don't need 8k for the foreseeable future. Because I shoot both photo and video and interchange quite fast, if there was a crop at 60p, then it would be very jarring to see crop in video and when switch back to photo, no crop. My old Sony flashes and Godox v350s don't sync beyond 1/500 in hotshoe TTL with a9iii. But the F46RM and F60RM2 work perfectly fine at any speeds, which is definitely useful for outdoor flash. For my purposes 24mp is more than enough. If on the rare occasion I need more or to do tight cropping, then software like Topaz Gigapixel do an excellent job of increasing resolution (up to 6x, which means beyond 100mp) without drop in quality. The ability to be responsive is more important to me than raw resolution. This is the one Sony camera that has all the good stuff, not counting the global shutter and crazy 120fps shooting - AI autofocus, auto framing, no crop and over sampled video for 60p and below, no crop video for 120p, 8 stop IBIS, dynamic stabilisation, 9.4 resolution EVF etc. Every other Sony camera would lack some of these, including the top of the line A1 and A7RV, A7IV, A7sIII, A7cii, A7cR. I have the A7IV, A7sIII, A7cii and A9iii. For my use, this is my favourite hybrid camera that can do both photo and video very well with no compromise (at least for my purposes).

The 7 day Sony Loaner Program is what pushed me over the edge. I bought the camera over a month ago and have been enjoying the new features almost every day since.

I got this camera to complement my A1 but ended up completely replacing the A1. The main reason for purchase is virtually unlimited x-sync that allows me to shoot all sorts of action with strobes in bright daylight. I can get 30 fps shot at 1/12800s fully synced with my Godox strobes (no HSS!) easily with this camera. If you think about it - 30 fps is basically a movie! This is just mind blowing. Auto-focus is great, it's more reliable compared to the A1 thanks to the more advanced ML image recognition. Long time ago I started a petition for Sony to add a pre-shooting buffer to the A1, which of course was ignored but I'm happy to see this feature on the A9 III. It definitely helps to capture more cool moments while shooting sports. Another thing where this camera shines is VIDEO. Thanks to GS, panning looks out of this world. 8 stop IBIS + digital produce footage comparable to Steadicam in smoothness. Overall I'm very happy with this camera, and looking forward to seeing other GS powered cameras from Sony, hopefully with more megapixels for better details. Thanks!
Super camera,

Im a disabled photography so I really love Sony cameras due to the customisable aspect. This camera body has a better shutter button position than my Sony A1. The tracking is really fast and it catches the body or eye a lot quicker than the Sony A1 So far this came is perfect. You can still crop lots on your photos. The A1 is the one to get if you enlarge your photos or mega crop, if not this camera will suit every need

ILCE-9M3/BQ AP2 11 March 2024 by JL Photography (Singapore) Verified Purchaser Verified
Bought this last month , satisfied with the features for birding . Excellent tracking and frames per second speed . Pre-capture is very useful for capturing the initial flight shots , otherwise near impossible to achieve . Shooting in Raw provides excellent details . Would be better if the picture resolution can be improved beyond the current 24Mp and the recording of the images into the CFX discs can be faster (lacks when shooting at 120fps).
