ILCE-7CR 09 November 2024 by tex628 (USA) Verified Purchaser Verified
This is a very expensive camera that comes without essential accessories; no way to charge the camera out of the box? Really? I never got mine to charge after all the troubleshooting and was only offered a return with a steep restock fee, for something that is not my fault. I literally can't write about anything else because I never got past "battery exhausted". I've never been so disappointed with Sony

My thoughts having recently purchased a Sony a7RC
ILCE-7CR 05 October 2024 (United Kingdom)
As an amateur photographer I relished the prospect of moving up several gears by trading in my impressive A6400 for the a7RC. There is simply nothing so far that has disappointed me with this camera. The build and ergonomics of this camera are incredibly impressive and I particularly like the fact that this powerhouse of a camera is compact and light ensuring that it can easily travel anywhere and its size will not intimidate subjects. . There are some really helpful videos on YouTube ( favourites include Mark Galer, Sony Ambassador and Jared Polin) that I have been watching to help me understand the menus and sub-menus so I can access the best settings for both still shots and video recordings. It’s bound to take a bit of time to familiarise myself with the menus but the journey is worthwhile and very enjoyable. Although this is a significant investment for any amateur photographer I am in no doubt even at this early stage of getting used to the camera, that I won’t regret it.

Probably the best FF camera to date
ILCE-7CR 02 September 2024 by colonel purple (United Kingdom)
It is difficult to underestimate a 60mp sensor that is sharp at the pixel level and has low noise and low ISO, but one you have shot with this sensor, all other FF sensors seem somewhat inadequate. In terms of a compact camera for travel or street, the A7CR has no AF rival. On top of that it is well made and a pleasure to use.

ILCE-7CR 28 August 2024 by Purple guy (United Kingdom)
Great camera with outstanding features. Sony shooter for a long time for both paid work and personal. The most fun I had shooting was back in the day with my sony a6 series camera. Just shooting for the fun of it, capturing images for my own pure enjoyment. As I progressed my cameras got bigger with more important features for the work I took on, but I missing that in the moment, shooting for pure enjoyment aspect. This gave me pause, what would I want from a compact camera? What did I wish my a6 series had back then. Full frame. Amazing af. Better battery life. Flippy screen. Hig res files. Sony gave me the a7cr. Everything I wanted yrs ago but never had. I have spent some time with this and I can hi ky recommend it, the files are big but the image quality is outstanding. The af is as near to perfect as I have experienced and the fun is 100% there. It's not perfect and full-time pros won't like 1 card slot (not an issue for me) Low res evf and screen, evf I can honestly say it's no big deal to me, we're not watching movies through it and it does what it needs to do and adequately. The lcd is good enough on my a7iv so it's good enough on this. Micro hdmi, I don't use it, I teather through the usb-c and don't shoot video with it, images only. Video specs are decent, not the best but it's not meant to be. My only negatives are the lack of changeable eye cup like on the other compact cameras, and even though the menu is the same as the a7iv basically I can't assign a button to switch from left to right eye. Not deal breakers but they matter to me and this is my review. If you want the a7rv feel but all the fun and joy of the a6 series you can't get better.

ILCE-7CR 30 July 2024 by DTA7 (United Kingdom)
I bought the a7CR to be a backup for my A7RV but it obviously provides such a great camera for travel and street photography. I not only pair the a7CR with the small ‘G’ lens 24 & 40 primes but have now paired it on my newly bought 16-35 GMII, finding it remarkably balanced. Like the A7RV, the a7CR is a great product and a joy use.

A really frustrating but expensive piece of kit
ILCE-7CR 26 July 2024 (United Kingdom)
I have been using this for a year now with the 20-70mm f 4 zoom (which is excellent). I have had numerous occasions when for no apparent reason it fails to save an images or images to the SD card. Start up and wake up time is slow and if one uses single shot mode it seems to take almost quarter of an hour before one can press the shutter again! I use it for landscape images of railways and appreciate the size and weight but would have off loaded the body some time ago had I not got a scratch on the top dial rendering it worth a lot less. Very disappointed and looking elsewhere at Canon and Fuji as we speak

Excellent Travel Camera
ILCE-7CR 09 May 2024 by Trev 33 (United Kingdom)
I bought the A7CR for travel, I am exceptionally I did, it has put some fun back into photography. I usually pair it with the 24mm G, 40mm G, a 1.4TC and the 70-200 F4 G ii lenses, I get consistently good results. Carried in the Peak Design 6L Sling with a couple of spare batteries and a filter or two the weight is less than 3kg. The Auto Focus is the best I have ever used, there is nothing about the camera I don't like.

very happy with this little camera
ILCE-7CR 29 April 2024 by Joan Ake (United Kingdom)
i'm loving this camera - my main wish would be that it had a higher resolution dvf - and a method for setting a more subdued flatter look to the viewfinder - i'd also increase the speed at which it can synch with exterior flash and would like a better silent mode with a diaphram shutter such as used to be in the old mamiya rz - all in all an excellent camera

My current camera of choice
ILCE7CRB 28 April 2024 by Richard the Lionhearted (USA) Verified Purchaser Verified
I've owned 3 Nex-7, an a6500, a7iii, a7Riii, a7iv, a7Riv. Currently I shoot with an a7Rv, the a7CR, and a Fuji x100vi. Since receiving the a7CR I've had no need to use the a7Rv which feels clumsy and cumbersome when I now pick it up. I'm also questioning my need for the slick Fuji x100vi. The a7CR, for my purposes, can replace both the a7Rv and the Fuji x100vi. Some reviewers have written that small cameras don't balance well with long lenses. Not true when I use my left hand near the end of the lens barrel. When the lens is heavier I have even more need to pair it with a lighter body. The a7CR has a deep grip which enables me to walk around comfortably holding it with my right hand through a wrist strap even when using the f4 70-200 Macro G with the TC1.4 installed. Before purchase I was concerned that the fewer custom buttons on the a7CR vs. the a7Rv would be a nuisance, however I have been able to get the parameters I need onto custom buttons and into the Fn button fields. Many have criticized the simpler tilt/pivot mechanism of the a7CR vs. that of the a7Rv, however I find it preferable for it easier, faster deployment. I do miss the larger higher resolution EVF, yet I can live with this in order to get a smaller and lighter camera. The location of the card slot precludes use of an L-bracket. There are times I want an L-bracket, but I can work without one. Mostly I'm using the a7CR with a 24-70 GM ii, but I also like how it handles with the 70-200 f4 Macro G, even with the TC14 added. It's a perfect match for my Zeiss Batis 40 and the 16-35 f4 PZ G, f2.8 90 Macro G, and my Tamron 28-200. When using my MF Zeiss, Voigtlander and Laowa lenses I think the larger EVF of the a7Rv is advantageous. I'd accept a small bulge in the a7CR top plate to accommodate a larger EVF. Wish Sony cameras would automatically transfer from the LCD to the EVF when the screen is taken from open to folded in. I have the same issue with the a7Rv. This slows me down when switching from the LCD to the EVF, aften needed to turn the camera off, then back on.

more like a a6000 series on steroids.
ILCE-7CR/SQ AP2 21 March 2024 (Singapore) Verified Purchaser Verified
i couldn't say it is a baby a7rv as it is not but more like a a6000 series on steroids. Arm excellent 61-megapixel sensor, it is the beefiest compact-body mirrorless yet in Sony line. with its AI processing unit and incredible autofocus performance, it is slmost having a a7rv on your hand but smaller. And because it is smaller, my pinky finger doesn't has a place to rest on the camera body but glad that this camera come with a Grip Extension which is very helpful. i wish the viewfinder could be better and it is very difficulty to see clearly through the evf in bright sunny conditions with out a proper eyecup. somehow it reminds me of RX1R II with better grip and autofocus performance.

Fantastic camera with some reservations
ILCE-7CR 08 March 2024 (United Kingdom)
Great camera, smaller and more compact than my A1 or a7Rv with most of the same features. Great walk around/travel camera with a good quality compact zoom, even the larger Sony 24-105 f4. Avoid larger and heavier lenses as even with the small (and very welcome) grip supplied with the body it can get dwarfed very easily. Also shame they used such a lower quality EVF and screen. I am sure mk 2 will sort that out. A great camera besides that.

ILCE-7CR 05 February 2024 by HuwWG (United Kingdom)
I bought this camera to replace my heavier A7R IV Many features I do not need so could be simpler. EVF is very disappointing. Also the on-off switch has mistakenly been moved from other models. The SD card has to go in upside down. Overall a good and useful camera with some minor flaws but one large one - the EVF.

Great camera but confusing controls
ILCE7CRB 31 December 2023 by kjp872 (USA) Verified Purchaser Verified
Absolutley great camera especially for travel. Amazing autofocus. Great image quality. But...while I have extensive experience with other high end (Canon) cameras, this is my first Sony and I find the number of options and redundancy of which dials control which function extremely confusing. Trying to customize which dials control the various functions is a daunting if not overwhelming task. The Sony Help Guide for this camera is voluminous, poorly written, confusing, and worthless.

I bought this camera a couple of weeks ago as I fell in love with how light it is in comparison to the other R versions. Superb image quality and immaculate focusing
ILCE-7CR 11 December 2023 by Mike M (United Kingdom)
I was looking for a travel camera to replace one I bought from another manufacturer. Overall it's great. Superb image quality at any resolution. The lack of a low pass filter puts it apart from most other Sony offerings. Some people complain about the small low resolution EVF but it doesn't bother me because I know the files are cracking. A couple of things to bear in mind, firstly and most importantly it doesn't have a separate joy stick to move the focus point so you need to dedicate a custom button to "focus standard" so you can easily switch between focus point movement and the regular functions on the rear circular dial. Secondly the compressed raw files are great for regular processing but won't work with AI noise reduction in DXO or Lightroom so you need to use manual noise reduction. Having said that despite the small pixel size I have no noise issues on this camera. All in all it's brilliant.

ILCE-7CR/SQ AP2 07 December 2023 by Old seadog (Singapore) Verified Purchaser Verified
As a 70 year old seaman who likes photography (not used to videos) and owning Leica M3 and Nikon FE film cameras, it was time to move into digital cameras as film is ebbing away. On searching the market came across the Sony A7cr (silver) which was suitably well built, small, light, impressive auto focus tracking and with myriad options of settings in it's menu system to keep me busily tinkering with new configurations to get great photos. Being small light and unobtrusive, I take it everywhere with me using the small sharp 40/2.5 G lens only. I would suggest to Sony to please provide a detailed manual handbook for it's operation as it's intricate details are more complicated than operating a large marine engine. The EVF is difficult to use due with spectacles, my age and it's lesser clarity so I use the back screen mostly. Would have liked the On-Off button with anticlockwise ON and clockwise OFF and +/- numbers on the exposure compensation dial. It would be better to let us install the Creators App also on a laptop computer to transfer images as File sizes are large and the mobile phone memory gets filled fast. It is a wonderful instrument that gives great pleasure in using and encourages exploring its settings to get even better compositions like a fine musical instrument. I am very happy that I bought it. After taking a photo, the back screen is very popular as everyone crowds in to see the result. The A7cr looks unobtrusive and people do not shy away from being included in the photos. My next lens will be an 85 mm prime with a small form factor. Thank you Sony for a wonderful instrument!
