Plays Blu Rays fine but half of the 4K discs I have tried freeze during playback between 30-60 minutes in. Have cleaned discs, made sure software is updated, reset the player and unplugged and restarted many times to no effect. I can see that this is a common problem from reviews.

Approx. 8 years ago I purchased a SONY 65" 4K BRAVIA TV. It always had a good picture but I hadn't purchased a 4K Blue Ray player until now. I put a 4K movie in and the picture is amazing. So crisp and clear. At $159.00, it's a steal!

Audio and video from VERY LIMITED STREAMING CONTENT, Blu-ray Disc (BD) and Ultra HD BD is very good. Don't plan on using this as your only streaming device and/or hook it up to a smart tv because number of apps available on UBP-X700 is VERY LIMITED. Please see photo "All Apps" available and yes I did software update on UBP-X700 before I took this picture on 11/06/2024.

Disappointing ... BBC have dropped support for the iplayer app.

I bought this in August and generally very happy. One thing which would improve it is if it could connect to the net to retrieve track listings when playing an audio CD. Apart from this, it's very good.

I've upgraded to a Sony 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player form my previous Samsung Blu-ray/DVD Player and wow what a difference... amazing colour and much better sound. Easy to install with options.

I spoke to support to verify this player will work on my new 65" OLED 4K TV. The advisor on the chat said yes, I went back on the chat at Sony support and asked the same question, the other operator said yes it will play 3D films on your new TV. It arrived, I set it up followed all instructions and quess qhat NO it will not play Blu ray 3D films. I arranged a return. I spoke to Richer sounds where I bought my new TV from a few days ago, they said there is no way it will play 3D blu ray films. I should of asked Richer sounds first before I wasted my time and money on this useless product.

Used it for a month and I'm satisfied with its video and audio quality. It's a value for money product.

Had this player for than a month now and it's working good as expected for Bluray and DvD. It was also featured for good quality audio from CD but I find it not comparable to standalone Hifi CD players.

I bought this player 2 weeks ago to replaced my old sony Blu-ray player..My first thoughs was this set is made in Malaysia, & the Power supply is built externally. there might be a issue it you're using some extention power socket. Overall the player perform as expected, it dose plays 3D blu-ray title but nowsday sadly there's no 3D spec support. The nafty Remote that comes with it could operate other makes basic TV functions with some setting.That's a very useful feature. I haven't tried any 4K Ultra Blu-ray discs yet. but I'm happy so far that it plays my old BR & DVDs even if there's some scratches on them.

I have owned one of these for over 5 years already, so having searched the market for a cheap but decent Blu-ray player to replace a 22-year-old home cinema system and finding not much worth having for a reasonable price, I chose a second UBP-X700 from Sony. Although the apps available on the player are limited, it does provide Youtube which the kids like and to be honest, smart TVs and other devices provide these. Perfomance-wise, the picture is fantastic and it handles all formats and codecs you would want. Obviously 4K and HD Blu-ray discs have a pin-sharp picture, but this player also does a very good job of upscaling SD content from standard DVDs. It's very easy to use and the menus are intuitive with reasonable descriptions for the functions in each sub-menu. Definitely a great Blu-ray player for anyone wanting a feature-rich device with good performance at a sensible price.

This 4K Blu-ray player plays all of my discs well, which is a basic requirement, but I also used it to stream from online sources. Sony's update today removed every single streaming app that is not part of its basic set (which is also reduced). I used to use this player to stream YouTube, but even this mainstay streaming app was removed. Come on, man! How can you possibly advertise support for streaming apps, which used to be over 100 but now is 0?

I have owned the player for around 3 months. No issues playing CDs, DVDs or Blu-Rays. As others have reported the player has issues playing 4K UHD discs reliably. A number of discs have either skipped or frozen when watching normally around the 1 hour 50 minute mark. When frozen the player has to be powered off and back on. I suspect the player is having issues changing disc layers.

Not turning on anymore . Of course they won't replace

I bought this to complement my Sony home cinema kit. Bravia TV, soundbar, sub woofer etc. The UHD 4K discs kept freezing and I couldn’t understand why. An internet search revealed that the Blu-ray player was sending the TV a 4K signal and the TV was then trying to upscale that to 4K too! A YouTube video later and I changed couple of settings on the Blu-ray player ; I have had trouble free viewing ever since. Well, I had a new 4K Blu-ray Disc that had a fingerprint on it and the disc froze. A soft wipe with a microfibre cloth to remove the fingerprint and everything played perfectly. Very happy with the player now the settings have been changed but you may need to do the same to stop it freezing when playing 4K Blu-ray Discs. I have docked the player one star from the score because it was not plug and play when connected to my other Sony kit.

I bought this product a few weeks ago. I’m satisfied with with features and quality of images and video produced. Easy to use & nice product. Value for money. Highly recommended.

I purchased this player predominantly for SACD playback & it reproduces that sound perfectly. Blu-ray & DVD playback is fine too. Unfortunately the on board apps are limited in selection but, despite this, the player is great value for money.

Bought this to accompany a new Bravia OLED TV - I’m genuinely astonished by the detail & quality of image it manages to squeeze out of ‘ordinary’ (i.e. not UHD, not Blu-Ray) DVDs. Really wasn’t expecting the upscaling to be so clever or subtle.

Have gotten this for Christmas and it function well as a 4k uhd player!

I got this a week a go and could not play any DVDs all the way through. Close to the end it would lock up. Tried 34 new movies and several one I've had for awhile. Sent back for refund

Very good overall Blue Ray player. Great Value. Sony needs to update user interface software and add the ability to load more APPS on this player.

This new player is so much better than our old Sony

This has been a nightmare three times have list sound when playing blue ray videos and had to send away to get repaired which has taken 5 weeks by the time it returns ! Not happy at all for such an expensive item

Having bought this I discovered a problem in that paid for content would not play. Contatcted Sony support and their only input was to recommend that I contact Google. The paid for content is fine on other devices only fails on Sony device!

Great UHD blu-ray player. Also plays HD blu-ray, DVD, CD's etc. Terrific picture and sound. Fast startup. I highly recommend.

This is a great player! The upscaling looks amazing on my Bravia OLED TV. The only issue is that this device doesn't like HDMI splitters. If I want to switch to it from a splitter, I have to switch the splitter; then, switch the TV to another HDMI port before switching back to the player's port.

The item failed out of the box. Failed to power on then would not boot once turned on. Not happy

Great for Dolby Vision Blu-rays. Wish it had more loaded apps....

Froze up on three occasions watching 4k discs. Returned it. Also having to change settings all the time depending on the video I’m watching is annoying. If you’re ok with setting changes all the time and occasionally freezing up like a brick then go for it. I switched to the Panasonic 820.

One of only two main companies these days which makes BluRay Players. Generally the player is good and functional. If offers some apps, though they are very limited in nature, pitty Sony has not kept up to the state of things regardign the optional apps. There is also no way to hide unused apps or ones you do not want.

Excellent player the 4K Blu-ray discs playback is superb and the upscaling of of Blu-ray discs and DVDS are great. When using the iPlayer app the playback is fantastic it upscales the contents of HD quality to almost 4K playback, very impressive I would highly recommend this player.
