Steps to shoot super-slow-motion movies (HFR Settings)

Shooting super-slow-motion movies is a little different from shooting a regular movie. Here is a detailed instruction and information about shooting super-slow-motion movies.

IMPORTANT: An SDXC Class 10, UHS-1 type memory card is required for shooting super-slow-motion movies. Shooting super-slow-motion movies has more data processing than usual recording. Thus, it requires a faster memory card.

1. Set the mode dial to HFR (High Frame Rate) then press the button in the center of the control wheel to confirm.

   

2. The HFR shooting modes available for HFR recording will be displayed on the LCD screen. Highlight the desired shooting mode for HFR recording then press the center button.

   

3. After choosing a shooting mode , the LCD screen switches to the HFR setting screen which also displays the subject in front of the camera. At this point, regular shooting settings like Focus Mode, Focus Area, Zoom, Exposure, Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO can be adjusted and set before going to the actual HFR shooting screen.

   NOTES:

   • Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO can be adjusted depending on the HFR shooting mode chosen.
   • On HFR shooting modes where the Shutter Speed can be adjusted, the slowest that can be set is 1/1000 of a second. It can be set faster but not slower than 1/1000 of a second.
4. Press the Menu button, then Choose HFR settings to adjust and set HFR shooting settings.

   

   Depending on how you want your super-slow-motion video to look like, adjust the menu items under HFR settings.

   

   Menu items details are as follows:

   • Record Setting - sets the frame rate of the movie that will be recorded on the memory card and played back later between 60p 50M, 30p 50M, and 24p 50M.
   • Frame Rate - sets the shooting frame rate from 240fps, 480fps, and 960fps.
   • Priority Setting - sets the recording priority between Quality Priority and Shoot Time Priority. Recordable duration is longer on Shoot Time Priority than it is on Quality Priority.
   • REC Timing - selects whether to record a set amount of time after pressing the MOVIE button (Start Trigger), or to record for a set amount of time until you press the MOVIE button (End Trigger).

   NOTE: The playback speed and length of the movie to be recorded will depend on what settings are set on both the Record Setting and Frame Rate under HFR settings. 5. After setting the HFR settings, press the Menu button twice to exit out of the HFR setting screen. This will bring you back to the HFR shooting screen.
6. Press the center button to activate and have the buffer ready for recording. The word "Preparing" will flash on the LCD screen followed by the green banner that says "STBY".

   NOTE: Depending on the REC Timing setting, the relationship between when you press the MOVIE button and the recorded section of the movie differs.

   • If REC Timing was set to Start Trigger, recording of the movie to the buffer memory and to the memory card will start after pressing the Movie button. Recording will be displayed on the screen until the whole buffer is recorded.
   • If REC Timing was set to End Trigger, images are already being recorded on the ring buffer once the center button is pressed and the green STBY banner is already displayed on the screen. Camera will continue to loop record (depending on the recordable duration set through Priority Setting) until the Movie button is pressed. Recording will be displayed on the screen and the camera will save a movie from the point the camera went on STBY up to the point the Movie button was pressed.
7. Press the MOVIE button to start recording.

NOTES:

• Sound will not be recorded.
• The movie will be recorded in XAVC S HD format.
• It may take time for recording to finish after you press the MOVIE button. Wait until the screen switches to HFR shooting to start the next shooting.
• You cannot adjust the exposure, focus settings including manual focus, or zoom scale after the screen has switched to HFR shooting.
