How can STAMINA mode and Extended Standby Mode reduce battery power consumption?

This information does not relate to the STAMINA mode present in some Xperia™ devices running Android™ version 6 (Marshmallow).

STAMINA mode is a power saving tool which comes installed on Xperia™ products that run on Android™ versions 4.1 to 5.1, except for the Xperia™ E. A similar tool, called Extended Standby Mode, featured on some Android™ 4.0 devices but not after such devices were upgraded to Android™ 4.1 or later Android™ versions. Here are some tips about STAMINA mode and how to use it:

    • Activate STAMINA mode to pause your Wi-Fi® connection, data traffic and several power-consuming applications when your screen is inactive. Once the screen becomes active again, all paused functions are resumed.
    • When STAMINA mode is active, you can still receive phone calls, and text and multimedia messages.
    • You can also set up an app list to allow some apps to keep running when your screen is inactive.
    • Activating STAMINA mode significantly increases the standby time of your phone or tablet.

STAMINA mode does not stop all running applications and certain ongoing tasks, such as downloads. Here are some points to note when STAMINA mode is active:

    • Running downloads or uploads will be completed even after the screen becomes inactive.
    • If the music player, Walkman® player or the FM radio is active, they do not get shut down when the screen becomes inactive.
    • You still receive incoming messages, calls and some notifications.

Note! Depending on your Xperia™ device and Android™ software version, several power saving modes may be available to you to make your battery last longer.
