What is Doze?

    Doze in Android 6.x

Doze mode suspends battery-draining network activities, such as location services, syncing and Wi-Fi® scanning in the background when you have not been using your device for a long time. Phone calls and text messaging (SMS) are not affected.

Doze is activated when all of the following conditions are met:

    • The screen of your device is off.
    • Your device is not charging.
    • You have not used your device for approximately one hour.

Doze is turned off when you start using the device again. Doze is also temporarily deactivated when the device is being updated.

Tip: This feature is enabled by default and is recommended for best battery performance. You can, however, make exceptions for some applications.

    Android™ 6.x

    To make exceptions from optimisation

    1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
    2. Find and tap Settings > Battery usage.
    3. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots) and select Battery optimisation, to view a list of applications that are not optimised.
    4. To add applications to this list, tap Not optimised > All apps.
    5. Tap an app, then tap Don't optimise > DONE. This setting is valid for both Doze mode and App Standby.

    Doze in Android 7.x

In Android™ 7.x, Doze is activated when the device isn’t used, even if you are carrying it around with you. This means you can save battery when carrying the device in your pocket or backpack.

In Android™ 7.x, there is also a light version of Doze that is activated when the screen of your device has been off for a while and the device is not charging. The light version of Doze turns off or activates network access (Wi-Fi® and mobile data), for example when you use the device for short periods of time. Actions that require network access, for example syncing, are postponed and will take place when the device is used. If your device hasn’t been moved or used for some time after Doze was triggered, a deep version of Doze will be activated. The deep version of Doze saves even more battery, since actions that require network access don’t take place as often as in the light version.

Doze is activated when all of the following conditions are met:

    • The screen of your device is off.
    • Your device is not charging.

Doze is turned off when you start using the device or when you attach the charger.

Tip: This feature is enabled by default and is recommended for best battery performance. You can, however, make exceptions for some applications.
