An error message appears when trying to burn a disc with the PlayMemories Home software.

    The following are error messages that may appear when trying to burn a disc using the PlayMemories Home™ software and recommended resolutions for each error messages.

    Error Message Solution

    Cannot detect a drive to write to.

    Some DVD or Blu-ray Disc® drives equipped on a computer offer disc playback without the ability to write to discs. Also, in some cases, this may be solved by updating the drivers of the DVD or the Blu-ray Disc drive to the latest version. For details, please contact the computer manufacturer.

    Some of the selected media files will not be written to the disc because they are in file formats that are not supported.

    This message may appear if some of the pictures you are trying to write to the disc are not supported by the PlayMemories Home Create Disc function. Below are the supported formats in creating a disc.

    • For AVCHD or Blu-ray Disc creation, use files with MTS or M2TS extensions.
    • For DVD disc creation, use files with MTS, M2T, M2TS, or MPG extensions.

    Other video formats are not supported by the PlayMemories Home software.

    Cannot write to this disc.

    The following factors may cause this message to appear:

    • Scratches, dirt, dust or deformation of the disc. Retry writing using a new disc.
    • The disc was formatted using a function of the computer. Use a new disc that has not been formatted by the computer.
    • The DVD-R or BD-R disc is not capable of additional writing and has already been used once. Use a new disc.
    • The disc is not supported by the PlayMemories Home software.

    Make sure you use one of the following compatible disc formats:

    • Data Disc: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW
    • DVD-Video Disc: DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVD-RW, DVD-R
    • AVCHD (HD) Disc: DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVD-RW, DVD-R
    • Blu-ray Disc media (HD): BD-RE, BD-RE DL, BD-R, BD-R DL

    Cannot start up due to shortage of space at the storage destination for temporary files.

    You do not have enough space in the storage destination used for temporarily storing information required upon disc creation. Increase the free space of the destination drive used for temporary files, or change the destination drive to one that has enough space. Follow the steps below to change the destination of the temporary files:

    1. In the Create Disc window, click Settings.
    2. Click General.
    3. Click Destination of temporary files.
    4. Click Refer and make the changes from the screen displayed.

    This disc is not compatible.

    The error may appear if you are using a disc recorded with a DVD Handycam® camcorder.

    • If the disc is not yet finalized, use the camcorder to finalize it.
    • If the camcorder containing the disc is connected to a computer with a USB cable, eject the disc and then reinsert it into the camcorder.
