Running the PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool

You can use the PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool to clear various settings that are saved automatically when you use the PlayMemories Home™ software. It may return the program to the original default settings.

1. Make sure that the PlayMemories Home software is not running.

2. Run the PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool.

   • For Microsoft® Windows® 10 operating system:

     1. On the computer desktop, click the Start button.
     2. In the Start menu, click the All apps.
     3. Point to PlayMemories Home.
     4. Click to select PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool.
     5. If unable to find the PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool, use the Search bar to search for it.

     Note:

     If the Action Cam Movie Creator is installed:

     1. On the computer desktop, click the Start button.
     2. In the Start menu, click the All apps
     3. Point to Action Cam Movie Creator and PlayMemories Home.
     4. Click to select PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool.

   • For Microsoft® Windows® 8 operating system or Microsoft® Windows® 8.1 operating system:

     1. Run from the Start screen.
     2. In Windows 8.1, select the ↓ button on the Start screen to display the Apps bar. In Windows 8, Right-click somewhere without tiles on the Start screen.
     3. Select All apps from the displayed app bar.
        Note: When All apps is displayed, PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool displays in the PlayMemories Home location.

     4. If you can't find PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool, search for it using the Search charm.

   • For Microsoft® Windows® 7 operating system:

     1. On the computer desktop, click the Start button.
     2. In the Start menu, point to Programs or All Programs.
     3. Point to PlayMemories Home.
     4. Click to select PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool.

     Note:

     If the Action Cam Movie Creator is installed:

     1. On the computer desktop, click the Start button.
     2. In the Start menu, click the All apps
     3. Point to Action Cam Movie Creator and PlayMemories Home.
     4. Click to select PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool.

3. Once the PlayMemories Home Settings Initialization Tool is running, place a check mark in Restore the program to its default settings and then click Start.

   

4. Click Yes once the message Are you sure you want to restore the program to its default settings? is displayed.
5. Click OK once the message Process completed is displayed.

6. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the PlayMemories Home software.

   When you launch the PlayMemories Home software, the PlayMemories Home Initial Settings window will be displayed.

   • Use the standard settings (Recommended)

     If you select Use the standard settings (Recommended), the default image browsing folder will be Pictures. If you want to select a folder other than Pictures or add another folder, select Use custom settings.

   • Use custom settings

     If you have run the PlayMemories Home Setting Initialization Tool due to unstable performance or if the PlayMemories Home software is failing to launch, select Use custom settings and choose initial settings without registering a folder.

   Note:

   • You can still add or delete a folder for image browsing in the PlayMemories Home software after Use the standard or Use custom settings have been applied. Steps for adding or removing folders is available at the PlayMemories Home Support Page.
   • If the PlayMemories Home software does not run properly after a folder has been added, it is possible that the folder contains images that are problematic in some way (damaged or incompatible files, etc.).

7. Select Use PlayMemories Online or Do not use PlayMemories Online when PlayMemories Online (Free) is a cloud-based photo and video service from Sony is displayed.
   Note:

   • You can also register and use the PlayMemories Online™ app at a later date. Click PlayMemories Online in the PlayMemories Home, and then click Sign in.
   • The PlayMemories Home software will start once Optimize video settings is completed.
