Basic information regarding the parental control feature available on a Blu-ray Disc player
IMPORTANT: This article is designed to provide basic information regarding the parental control settings available on a Blu-ray Disc® player. Due to the fact that the parental control features on a Blu-ray Disc player may differ from model to model, refer to the manual supplied with the Blu-ray Disc player for model-specific information. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
Password
The password is a code that is required to access restricted content. The old password must be entered before a new one may be set. Be sure to record the new password as it is required to change the security settings in the future, including all of the Parental Controls settings listed below.
Parental Control Area Code or Country
This setting determines the level of restriction for Blu-ray Disc movie or DVD movie based on the region of the movie. It does not determine what region of Blu-ray Disc movie or DVD movie will be playable on the system.
- United States or USA: This is default for Blu-ray Disc players purchased in the U.S. It may differ depending on where the device was purchased.
- Other: This sets standard parental control levels for other regions. If you select Other you can select from a list of regions.
Blu-ray Disc Parental Control
Set the level of restriction for Blu-ray Disc movie content. Note that not all Blu-ray Disc movies are compatible with this setting. Options include:
- Do Not Restrict or Off: Play any Blu-ray Disc regardless of parental control level.
- Restrict or On: Will only allow you to play Blu-ray Disc movies with the specified parental control level. After Restrict or On is set, you can select an age restriction.
NOTE: The lower the value, the greater the restriction.
DVD Parental Control
Set the level of restriction that will be applied to the playback of a DVD movie. If a DVD movie that is restricted is inserted, a password will be required in order for the movie to play. The level of a DVD is set by the publisher and therefore the DVD parental control levels on the player do not correspond to a specific movie rating. Note that not all DVD movies are compatible with this setting. Options may include:
- Off: Allows you to play any DVD regardless of parental control level.
- Level 8 - 1: Only play DVDs with the specified parental control level.
NOTE: The lower the value, the greater the restriction.
Internet Video Unrated
This setting allows you to block or prevent viewing unrated Internet videos. Videos from social media websites and video streaming apps such as YouTube® videos app may be unrated and contain content that is considered mature in nature.
- Allow: Allows the playback of unrated Internet videos.
- Block: Does not allow the playback of unrated Internet videos.
NOTE: Some Internet apps may have their own parental control settings that will allow more specific control features.
