VAIO Care stops working after a third-party backup or file transfer tool has been used to move or transfer files used by the VAIO Control Center.

    The System Information section of the VAIO Control Center can show no information if a third party backup or file transfer tool has been used to move or transfer some or all of the applications the VAIO Control Center uses to populate that screen. Image

    Also, since the system information contains no information, the VAIO Care utility may stop working properly and Sony drivers and updates may not download or install, resulting in a This update is not intended for use with your computer model error.

    When this issue occurs, first check to make sure that the VAIO Control Center is not configured to run in compatibility mode:

    IMPORTANT: Because being set to run in compatibility mode can result in a This update is not intended for use with your computer model error, after checking to make sure that the VAIO Control Center is not configured to run in compatibility mode, repeat the steps below to verify that any downloaded driver or application files are not also set to run in compatibility mode.

    1. Click the Start button, click All Programs, and locate VAIO Control Center (or browse to the location of a downloaded driver or application).
    2. Right-click VAIO Control Center (or the [driver or application file name] icon), and then click Properties. Image

    4. On the Compatibility tab, click to remove the check from the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode for, and then click the OK button. Image

      NOTE: If the Run this program in compatibility mode for option is grayed out or the check cannot be cleared from the box, click the Change settings for all users button and in the Compatibility for all users window, click to remove the check from the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode for, and then click the OK button.     If the issue is still unresolved and the VAIO Control Center still shows no information, the information can be restored by using the System Restore utility to return the computer to a point before the third party backup or file transfer tool was used.

    NOTE: Follow the appropriate operating system procedure to use the System Restore utility to return the computer to a point before theissue occurred.

    If the issue is still unresolved after performing a System Restore, a System Recovery procedure may be necessary.

    IMPORTANT: This issue can be avoided by selecting either Files Only or Files and Settings Only from within the menu selection options of the backup or file transfer software being used, and by avoiding the use of any setting option that includes Transfer Applications or Full Migration.
