How do I set default apps? (Android 9 or higher)
IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.
It is possible to replace a default app with a third-party app, for example, by changing the browser from Google Chrome™ to Firefox™. You can change the following default apps:
- Assist & voice input/Assist app/Digital assistant input
- Browser app
- Home app
- Phone app
- SMS app
- Tap & pay (Android® 9)
To set a default app
- Find and tap Settings → Apps & notifications/Apps → Default apps.
- Tap the type of app you want to set, then tap the app you want to use as default.
