How do I change the default application for an action? (Android 9 or higher)

When performing a task on your Xperia® device, such as opening a photo or tapping a link, you may receive a prompt to complete the action using a specific application. When selecting an application, you must choose either JUST ONCE or ALWAYS before the relevant application opens to complete the action. If you select ALWAYS, the chosen application becomes the default application for the particular task.

If you want to change the default application for the task, you must clear the default settings.

Clear the default settings for an application

1. Find and tap Settings → Apps & notifications → See all [number of apps] apps.
2. Find and tap the application you want to clear the default settings.
3. Tap Advanced → Open by default → CLEAR DEFAULTS (For Android 12 or higher: tap the switch beside Open supported links to disable).
