How do I set default apps? (Android 6.0, 7.0 or 8.0)
Information
In Android version 6.0 or higher it is possible to replace a default app with a third-party app, for example by changing browser from Chrome to Firefox. You can change the following default apps:
- Assist & voice input
- Browser app
- Home app (Android 7.x and 8.0)
- Phone app
- SMS app
- Tap & pay (Android 8.0)
Solution
To set a default app
Android 8.0
- Find and tap Settings → Apps & notifications → Advanced → Default apps.
- Tap the type of app you want to set, and then tap the app you want to use as default.
Android 7.0, 7.1 or 7.1.1
- From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
- Find and tap Settings → Apps.
- Tap the gear icon .
- Tap the type of app you want to set, and then tap the app you want to use as default.
Android 6.0
- From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
- Find and tap Settings → Apps.
- Tap the gear icon → Default Apps.
- Tap the type of app you want to set, and then tap the app you want to use as default.
