Some of my contacts are no longer available in the Contacts application

    If your contacts are missing in the Contacts application, try these methods one after the other. Verify after each method whether the problem was solved, before trying the next one.

    • Try updating the filter in the Contacts application so that all available contacts get displayed.
    • If you have saved contacts on your SIM card or on your memory card, you may need to import the contacts.

    If, after doing this, you are still missing contacts from the list, its likely that they have been erased. If the missing contacts were added using a third-party app and you didn't save them to your Google account, to your device's local storage, or to the SIM card, the contacts have been deleted. If this is the case, you will need to add the contacts manually using the same third-party app, for example, a messenger app.

    Updating the filter in the Contacts app

    Android 8.0 or 9.0

    To update the filter in the Contacts app

    1. Find and tap Contacts.
    2. Drag the left edge of the screen to the right, then find and tap Settings.
    3. Tap Contacts to display, then All (Normal view).

    Android 7.0

    To update the filter in the Contacts app

    1. Find and tap Contacts.
    2. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots), then tap Contacts to display.
    3. Tap All contacts.

    Android 4.4, 5.0, 5.1 or 6.0

    To update the filter in the Contacts app

    1. Find and tap Contacts.
    2. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots), then tap Filter.
    3. Unmark the Contacts with phone numbers or Online contacts checkboxes.
    4. Under Display contacts, select each contact service or account whose contacts you want to display. For example, select Google and mark the all checkboxes under Google if you want to view all your Google contacts in the Contacts app.
    Note! Whether it is possible to display Facebook contacts or not depends on which version of the Facebook app you have. Later versions of the Facebook app cannot synchronise contacts with the Contacts app.

    Android 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, or 4.3

    To update the filter in the Contacts app

    1. Find and tap Contacts.
    2. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots), then tap Filter.
    3. Unmark the Contacts with phone numbers or Online contacts checkboxes.
    4. Under DISPLAY CONTACTS, select each contact service or account that you want to edit, then make the desired changes. For example, select Google and mark the all checkboxes under Google if you want to view all your Google contacts in the Contacts app.
    5. When you're finished, tap OK or Done.
    Note! Whether it is possible to display Facebook contacts or not depends on which version of the Facebook app you have. Later versions of the Facebook app cannot synchronise contacts with the Contacts app.

    Importing contacts

    There are several ways to transfer contacts to your device. You can transfer contacts using a computer, using an online account, or several other methods for transferring contacts. For example, you can copy contacts to a memory card, use Bluetooth technology, or save contacts to a SIM card.

    Android 8.0 or 9.0

    To import contacts in the Contacts app

    1. Find and tap Contacts.
    2. Drag the left edge of the screen to the right, then find and tap Settings.
    3. Tap Import, then select what source you want to import contacts from.
    4. Select where to save the contacts.

    Android 7.1.1 or lower

    To import contacts in the Contacts app

    1. Find and tap Contacts.
    2. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots), then tap Import/export or Import contacts.
    3. Select what source you want to import contacts from.
    4. Select where to save the contacts.
