Noise is heard from the projector

IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

Follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

    Content

    1. VPL-XW7000/6000 only: The noise occurs when adjusting the FOCUS, ZOOM, or SHIFT
    2. Check the installation environment
    3. Change the settings

    Troubleshooting

    1. VPL-XW7000/6000 only: The noise occurs when adjusting the FOCUS, ZOOM, or SHIFT

Per specifications, a certain amount of electrical sound is generated when the lens is operated, such as when FOCUS, ZOOM, or SHIFT are used. If those operations work smoothly, the projector doesn't have an issue.

    2. Check the installation environment

Some environmental factors can cause noise. To avoid this, make sure there are no problems with how or where the projector is installed:

    1. Near walls: To maintain the performance and reliability of the unit, leave a space between the walls and the projector as illustrated:
      • Viewing the projector from the top
Illustration indicating the distance (rear (B), left (A), right (A)) between the projector and surrounding walls when viewed from above
        • A: 30 cm (11 7/8 inches)
        • B: 5 cm (2 inches)
      • Viewing the projector from the front
Illustration indicating the distance (upper (B), left (A), right (A)) between the projector and surrounding walls when viewed from the front
        • A: 30 cm (11 7/8 inches)
        • B: 15 cm (6 inches)
    2. Avoid poor ventilation: Leave at least 30 cm (11 7/8 inches) of open space around the projector.
    3. Avoid heat and humidity: Do not install the projector near stoves or heaters.
    4. Avoid locations subject to direct cool or warm air from an air-conditioner or furnace: Installing the projector near an air-conditioner or furnace may cause a malfunction due to moisture condensation or a temperature rise.

    3. Change the settings

Note: For details on the procedure to change the settings, refer to the Help Guide.

    1. Change the Output of the Laser Light Setting to minimize, and check if the noise becomes low.
    2. Change the High Altitude Mode setting. The noise will be less when the High Altitude Mode setting is Off rather than Level 1 or level 2.
WARNING! When using the projector in a location at an altitude of 1,000m or higher, setting the High Altitude Mode to Off may cause a malfunction. If this is the case, keep the setting and proceed to the next step.
    3. Keeping the room temperature 25°or lower will limit the need for the fan, which can help reduce noise. To display the intake air temperature of the projector, check the Intake Air Temp.
    4. After checking the settings above, set the Output of the Laser Light Setting to the desired brightness.
      • Dynamic Control: Full, Limited, or Off
      • Output: Desired value
Note: Any noise produced is quietest when Output is set to the minimum.
