High Dynamic Range feature on the 4K Android TV

What Is High Dynamic Range (HDR)?

• HDR content has a wider dynamic range of luminance than standard video format at the creating process.
• It expands the range of both contrast and color. Bright parts of the image get brighter, and the colors expand to show more bright blues, greens, reds, and everything in between. The expansion of the contrast ratio and the color palette offers a more realistic and natural picture.

Watch Content in HDR

You will need each of the following in order to watch HDR videos:

• A 4K Android TV™ that supports HDR.
  • Make sure you have the latest software update  installed.
  • The software update to enable the HDR feature on the XBR-49X700D, XBR-55X700D or XBR-65X750D TV models is available for download. Downloads are posted on your model support page.
  • You will need to enable the HDMI Enhanced format in order to activate the HDR feature.

    Enable HDR on your TV

    The HDR Video mode on the TV is an enhanced picture mode for HDR format videos available in the menu of the TV.

    • For TVs running on Android™ 6.0 Marshmallow

      1. On the supplied remote control, press the HOME button.
      2. Select Settings.
      3. Under the TV category, select External Inputs.
      4. Select HDMI signal format.
      5. Select the appropriate HDMI input.
      6. Select Enhanced format.

    • For TVs running on Android™ 7.0 Nougat

      1. Press the HOME button.
      2. Select Settings.
      3. Under the TV category, select External inputs.
      4. Select HDMI signal format.
      5. Select Enhanced format.

    Note:

    All HDMI ports of Android TVs manufactured in 2017 including the following models support HDR Video mode. HDMI ports 2 and 3 supports 18Gbps transfer rate , while HDMI ports 1 and 4 supports 9Gbps transfer rate.

    • XBR-65Z9D
    • XBR-100Z9D
    • XBR-75Z9D
    • XBR-65X750D
    • XBR-55X700D
    • XBR-49X700D

• One of the following HDR sources:
  • An HDR capable source device connected to the HDMI® port on your TV.
  • A streaming service that offers HDR content ( Netflix® app and Amazon™ steaming).
  • Contact the app provider for information regarding if or when HDR content will be supported.

How Do I Know If Content Is HDR Compatible?

If a video or game is HDR compatible, an HDR icon appears under the Picture adjustment settings in the menu.

Check the Picture adjustment settings:

1. Press the HOME button.
2. Select Settings.
3. Under the TV category, select Picture & Display.
4. Under the Picture & Display settings, select Picture adjustments.
   • The HDR icon will appear on the Picture adjustments screen.
