Connect your Android TV to the internet

To connect your TV to the internet, you need a modem and network router setup with an active internet connection. You then connect your TV to the network router using a wireless or wired connection.

Your Android TV™ has a built-in wireless adapter that enables it to use Wi-Fi® technology to connect to your network.

If, however, you prefer a wired connection, a network cable (not supplied) is needed.

Before you start

• Make sure your modem and router are setup and your network is connected to the internet. For configuration details, refer to your modem and router manuals, or contact your internet provider or the device manufacturer for assistance.
• If you choose to use a wired connection, connect a network cable, also known as an Ethernet or LAN cable, from the router to the LAN port on the back of the TV.

Use the Network Setup Feature in the TV menu to connect to your network

Note: These steps may vary by model, if model specific info is needed, check your product manuals for details. Manuals are posted on your model support page.

1. On the supplied TV remote control, press the Home button.
2. Select Settings or the settings gear icon.
3. Under NETWORK & ACCESSORIES, select Network.
4. Select Network setup.
5. Select Easy.
6. Select your TV-to-Router connection type:
   • Wireless Connection
     1. On the Select a way to connect your wireless router screen, choose a connection method.
        • CONNECT BY SCANLIST - If you know the name and password of your home network.
          1. Select CONNECT BY SCANLIST.
             CONNECT BY SCANLIST uses Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) security protocol.
          2. Select the name of your network.
          3. Type your password on the Enter the password (WPA) of your router screen.
             • Highlight the Password text field and press the ENTER or OK button to display the on-screen keyboard.
               
               Note: The on-screen keyboard may vary with different menu items. The keyboard also varies based on the model and software version installed. In some cases the keyboard displays the upper case letters in the top row, then the lower case letters, and then numbers and symbols in the following rows.

             • The password is case sensitive. If your keyboard doesn't display both upper and lower case characters, press the up-arrow button on the on-screen keyboard to toggle between upper case and lower case as needed.
          4. Select NEXT to proceed.
          5. Select OK.

          Note: Additional information is available if you're unable to connect your TV to the internet using WEP encryption after following the steps provided.
        • CONNECT BY WPS BUTTON - Using the WPS (Push Button) feature with WPS supported routers.
          1. Select CONNECT BY WPS BUTTON.
          2. On your router, press the WPS button.
             • Some manufactures use the terms Wi-Fi Simple Config, Push 'n' Connect, PBC, or Quick Secure Setup (QSS).
          3. Select OK.

          Note: Additional information is available for using the WPS (Push Button) feature to connect to a wireless network.

     Note:

     • Check your router manual or contact the manufacturer or internet provider if you don't know the Service Set Identifier (SSID) / network name or the WEP or WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security key.
     • In most home environments, the IP address setting is set to Auto while the Proxy setting is No. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) if a proxy connection has been setup.
   • Wired Connection
     1. Select WIRED LAN and follow the on-screen instructions.
        Note:

        • The setting items (IP address, subnet mask, DHCP) may vary depending on the internet service provider (ISP) or router. For details, contact your ISP or refer to your router's manual.
        • You may need to turn off the built-in wireless LAN function for the wired connection to work properly. View instructions to turn it off
          1. On the supplied remote control, press the Home button.
          2. Select Settings.
          3. Under NETWORK & ACCESSORIES, select Network.
          4. Select Advanced Settings.
          5. Select Built-in Wi-Fi.
          6. Choose Off.
