Yes! We invite international applicants to apply for internship and full-time positions at Sony in Japan.

Generally, technical assessments are required to apply to full time positions and are not required to apply to internships. However, there are exceptions to both.

Currently, all available full-time and internship listings do not require a transcript, but some may require a cover letter. If required, cover letters will be submitted in addition to essay responses (which are required for all positions) and coding assessments (which may be required depending on the position).

No, it is not a requirement. All interns and full-time employees will conduct their work in English.
It should also be noted that incoming full-time hires will have the opportunity to take fully subsidized Japanese language courses before beginning work in Japan. However, please note that these language programs are not available for interns.

No, everyone is welcome to apply to any of our listings. The expectations (such as technical skills and responsibilities) will be clearly outlined in each listing. In general, internships are offered to 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students and graduate students (including master’s and doctoral degree candidates), and they typically take place over the summer. Exceptions may also be made depending on each student`s situation (such as 1st year undergraduates that took one or more gap years to gain extensive professional experience, as well as off-cycle 4th year undergraduate students).

Most of our current internship and full-time listings are technical in nature. So, in terms of concrete skills, an academic and/or research background in STEM would be ideal. Many roles require coding skills, so it would be most useful to have a strong background in computer science or engineering. However, if you have a background in fields such as mathematics, physics, and statistics, then you will also likely find opportunities suited to you.
In addition to strong technical skills, Sony searches for applicants that show a genuine interest in the position they are applying to. So, be sure to reflect this in the essay that you submit in your application, as that is where we truly see your passions shine through.

Sony will cover round trip flights, accommodation, insurance, commuting expenses, and visa expenses for interns. Additionally, Sony will provide a daily stipend for living expenses.

Wherever you are in the world, Sony will cover all expenses associated with applying for and obtaining your Japanese working visa. Additionally, you will be in contact with experienced professionals throughout the entire process to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

The standard work week is from Monday to Friday, and each day begins at 9:00 AM and consists of 8 working hours (excluding lunch).

There is no overtime work for interns, and full-time employees work most of their overtime hours during the busiest parts of their year. Additionally, it should be noted that all employees receive compensation for overtime work.

Most likely, yes. You will need to coordinate with your manager and team beforehand, but plenty of master`s students have been able to complete their master`s thesis with Sony in the past.
