Sony Employees Introduce Projects
for Accessibility and Inclusive Design

On September 14th, in conjunction with the "Sustainability Meeting," Sony hosted an exhibition at the Sony Group head office to showcase our latest efforts in accessibility and inclusive design. In this blog post, we will share a video in which the employees responsible for these initiatives introduce the exhibition's content. Furthermore, Sony will present these efforts along with additional products and inclusive design concepts at the "CEATEC 2023" exhibition starting on October 17th. We invite all who are in the area to visit the Sony Booth.

Initiative for Inclusive Design
Collaboration between Sony/Taiyo Corporation, a company where employees with disabilities play an active role, and Sony's software team creating a function of
the Xperia™ smartphone

We are pleased to introduce a function developed through a collaboration between employees with low vision of Sony/Taiyo Corporation, where approximately 60% of the employees has disabilities, and Xperia's engineering team. The function informs the user the horizontal measurement information of the screen through sound when taking photos using the Photography Pro. We are excited to present this function alongside our ongoing efforts in inclusive design.

Alpha™ Full-frame Interchangeable-Lens Camera:
'Screen Reader Function' and 'Menu Magnify Display Function'

We would also like to introduce a screen reader function of Alpha to assist users with visual impairments, and a menu magnify display function for users who have difficulty viewing the LCD monitor screen.

Retina Projection Camera Kit『DSC-HX99 RNV kit』

We introduce a camera kit that combines a camera with a viewfinder. This innovative kit enables people with low vision can enjoy professional photography using the laser retinal projection method, which is less affected by the eye's ability to adjust focus.

XR Catch

We are also delighted to introduce a game where users can play catch with a virtual ball relying on sounds that leverages Sony's video, audio and sensing technologies in combination with MUSVI Corporation's telepresence system "MADO."

Ultra Light Saxophone

As part of Yuru Musical Instrument, an initiative committed to offering everyone the chance to easily play instruments and join in an immediate ensemble with others, we introduce an innovative instrument that allows you to hum and create the sounds of the saxophone without complicated keys operations.

Access™ Controller for PlayStation®5

In line with PlayStation's dedication to accessibility, we have collaborated closely with accessibility experts and individuals with disabilities. Allow us to introduce the PlayStation 5 controller kit, meticulously designed to support a diverse range of customization options.
