Portrait of Achille Castiglioni

We have taken a part in the exhibition marking the anniversary of Achille Castiglioni.
Achille Castiglioni design symbolizes challenge and sets a benchmark for future designers. From all his designs, the Ready-made series especially exhibits a bold approach, portraying a timeless sense of humor. The challenge for the Sony Design team was to interpret the stories behind Lampadina, Sella, Mezzadro, Toio and to convey them by designing experiences utilizing technology. We hope that everyone can enjoy the encounter and gain an enriched appreciation of the architypes and the everlasting legacy of Achille Castiglioni.

Lampadina: Film reel turns to turn the power on. Then a famous video footage of Antonelli and Castiglioni is played on screen.
Sella: The phone moves interactively following the stool’s movement as if someone is sitting and talking on the phone.
Toio: Based on ideas of car head lamp combined with a fishing rod, two movies run one after another - one related to driving a car and the other fishing.
Mezzadro: As in the name Mezzadro (tractor stool), strong vibration and country side scenery on the peeping window give you a feel as if “riding on the track”.

We thank Mrs. Patricia Urquiola for the opportunity to take a part in this exhibition.
