Design Workshop Week 2023

In February of this year, the head of Creative Center, Daisuke Ishii held a workshop as a Visiting Professor of Politecnico di Milano, School of Design with several designers. The workshop was a one-week course, which saw talented students from different countries with a variety of skills such as Digital and Interaction Design, Integrated Product Design, and Product Service Design. The theme of the workshop was "Evolution and expansion of furniture for the future," and each group came up with a holistic approach to propose a new user experience in which technology supports our daily lives.

Grand Award: Group 3 'Inkspire'

Strategy Design Award: Group 2 'Hubeat'
An integrated smart kitchen with four adaptable shared spaces.
Visual Design Award: Group 4 'Lightbrary'
A shelf that connects you to your beloved by creating a shared library of memories through light and augmented screens.
Product Design Award: Group 5 'HALO'
An ambiance lamp that enhances people’s lives in the kitchen through adapting visuals, voice interaction and user interface.
UIUX Design Award: Group 6 'SOMNIA'
A smart bed that promotes a better sleeping routine with the help of techniques used for meditation.

Design Talk

During the Workshop Week, a Design Talk was hosted, where designers and lecturers discussed the current and future role and the possible impact of design culture in an ever- changing society. The focus was on the knowledge, competencies and abilities required by designers in this renewed scenario, in which disciplinary barriers appear to be shrinking and the physical and digital intertwine, generating new opportunities.

Aside from Daisuke Ishii heading Sony's design team, the speakers included Prof. Francesco Zurlo, Prof. Margherita Pillan, Prof. Venanzio Arquilla from the School of Design at Politecnico di Milano, and international designers and researchers who lectured the other workshops such as Mr./Ms. Ron Gilad, Eithan Sharif, Duy Phong Vu, Mauro Porcini, Marie-Thérèse Cassidy, John Thackara, Roberta Tassi, Pieter Desmet, and Luciano Galimberti.
