The first color TV using Sony's unique Trinitron method. I achieved a level of brightness twice as bright as the shadow mask method, which had been the mainstream method. This was a monumental product that ensured Sony's superiority in color television devices. In 1964, Sony entered the color television market with the Chromatron system, which was six times brighter than the shadow mask system used by most cathode-ray tube televisions, but Sony struggled with the costly manufacturing process. In 1968, Sony began developing an alternative to the Chromatron system and developed Sony's unique Trinitron television, which featured a combination of three-in-one electron gun and aperture grille. In order to take advantage of the sharp, bright screen characteristic of the Trinitron, a small 13-inch screen was chosen, which was also easy to mass produce. Thereafter, Sony worked on making the Trinitron larger and wider, and led the technological development of color TVs.
