Sony Group receives gold rating in the Pride Index for corporate LGBT initiatives

The Sony Group has received a gold rating in the Pride Index for its LGBT initiatives. It received high marks for its personnel, employee benefit and welfare schemes (*1), particularly its equal treatment policies for the same-sex partners and spouses of employees.

The Sony Group's Diversity Statement clarifies company policy towards sexual minorities, including LGBT, and is widely publicized in and outside the Group through the Internet and other media.

The Pride Index for LGBT initiatives

The private organization "work with Pride" (wwP) supports the promotion and institutionalization of diversity management relating to sexual minorities, and has set up Japan's first benchmark for corporate LGBT initiatives. Two of wwP's NPO affiliated organizations, Good Aging Yells and Nijiiro Diversity, assessed companies, corporate groups and other organizations for their diversity initiatives, and awarded gold, silver and bronze ratings according their scores. The awards were announced on October 26 at a seminar held in Dai-Ichi Seimei Hall in Tokyo.

Gold ratings: 53 companies, corporate groups and organizations

One point was awarded to companies, etc., for each of five categories in which they satisfied certain conditions. Gold ratings were awarded for scores of five points.

Silver ratings: 20 companies, corporate groups and organizations

One point was awarded to companies, etc., for each of five categories in which they satisfied certain conditions. Silver ratings were awarded for scores of four points.

Bronze ratings: 6 companies, corporate groups and organizations, etc.

One point was awarded to companies, etc., for each of five categories in which they satisfied certain conditions. Bronze ratings were awarded for scores of three points.
