Improving efficiency and reducing costs in water treatment systems by Triporous
Triporous™ can be made into various shapes, such as powder, granule, filter, and more.
Technical properties
Triporous not only adsorbs various organic matter quickly but also adsorbs high-molecular weight substances,
which have been difficult to be adsorbed using conventional materials.
Specifically, it has strong removal ability against surfactants, organic fluorine compounds group (PFAS),
naturally derived compounds (such as humic substances), proteins, viruses, and bacteria.

Figure: Comparison of Triporous filter and activated carbon filter properties
A water treatment system using reverse osmosis (RO) membrane with Triporous pre-filter can generate water three times more in volume compared to a system with a conventional activated carbon pre-filter.
Advantages of introducing Triporous
In industrial water treatment, various filter technologies are used, such as activated carbon, ion exchange resin, RO membrane, ultrafiltration membrane (UF membrane), and microfiltration membrane (MF membrane) depending on the purpose and the installation environment.
By switching the activated carbon filter installed prior to ion exchange resin or an RO membrane with a Triporous filter, the load on the ion exchange resin and RO membrane can be reduced.
In addition, to remove relatively large materials, the MF membrane and UF membrane can be switched to a Triporous filter*.
Triporous contributes to longer service life of the system, lower initial and maintenance costs, and a reduced installation footprint for water treatment.

Reduction in the initial cost and maintenance cost.
Reduction in installation footprint.
Triporous can be processed into various shapes depending on the use in water treatment.
The use of Triporous as a filter for treating water in the production of food and drinks, manufacture of ultra-pure water for semiconductors and liquid crystals, and treatment of wastewater is especially anticipated.
Its application is anticipated not only for general purpose and industrial use but also as water purifiers in developing and emerging countries and as simple water purifiers during disasters.
Sony aims to contribute to solutions of various water issues around the world with Triporous.
